When you remove the choke on a 400ex(only performance mods is K&N air filter Complete trinity pipe and main jet) you need to put in a 42 pilot jet correct?(Pilot and slow is the same right?) My question is the jet im after pt # SD-19008 IN CHAPARRAL? My local dealer only has a 40. page 458

You are correct. Its listed like this:

Size---------Part Number

21-42-------SD-19008

The first number under the size is the series of the jet. You need series21. There is also a series22, wich you do not want! The size is 42(the second number). The series 21 will prob. look differant than your stock one but rest assured it is correct.

the 42 I got from honda/service honda looks identical to the 38 I took out...
