hey, i know its early but i thought i would post this to see if anyone was interested. a few friends and i were planning a trip up to black river falls the weekend after the 4th of july. i dont really remember the name of the place we camp, but its almost right on the Clark / Jackson county border. the trails are awesome and we always have a GREAT time goin up there. the worst part about it; the 4.5 hr drive up there for us. there are about 250miles of trails and a few towns along the way to fill up and get some food. i think everyone should take a visit if they are looking for a good vacation with the quad, there is a reason we drive 4+ hrs multiple times during the summer. if you need more info, look up Black river falls on google or whatever, or ask here...

I'd be up for this ride, I only live a few hours away too. I've driven through Black River Falls and saw some trails and even a track that some quads and dirtbikes were riding on, but I didn't see any roads that led to the track...anyone know of which one I'm talking about? It was right off the highway that goes by or through BRF.

ya that track is CMJ Raceway, it is a nice MX track and they also have a huge hillclimb and hold a harescramble race each year. The black river falls trails are also really nice and def worth the drive. Toadz where in Wisconsin are you from. Here is a link to CMJ racewayhttp://www.cmjraceway.com/

my parents live up in osseo so I go riding there all the time. If you really want some good trails you should go stay at rock dam in clark county. the black river trails are nice but the clark county trails are better. If you are interested labor day weekend a bunch of people get together and camp in rock dam and ride for the weekend. I was not able to make it last year but I know they had fun. I am actually going to go up next weekend to ride. Also if people want to my parents live on 80 acres so there is plenty of room to camp. If anyone plans on going up there make a post and I will see if my buddies and I can make it. We are usually there every sunday.

What are the trails like in clark county?

The trails are awesome. They are by far the best trails I have ridden. If you have been on the black river trails imagine that plus 10. The clark trails are not as bumpy and I think a ton more fun. plus there are a few more trails and no dirt bikes.

we camp on the border of the 2 counties and ride both. we usually go south one day and ride to milston. then the next we will go north and head up to rock dam. there are some really good trails both places, but the rock dam trails are really nice.

BTW; ill post again whenever we are going up there so people dont have to plan so far ahead.

I have been riding the BRF trails since 1985 and will agree that they are some of the nicest for a faster pace rider like us ;). The best BRF trail is the one that brings you back NORTH from Millston to BRF. This trail pretty much parallels I-94 headed north. The trail is smooth, hard packed and screams speed. Not to many people use it anymore because the connector back to BRF was cut off years ago and finally they found a new connector trail.
Clark county trails are as nice if not nicer as mentioned. They finally have a connector trail open to allow Jackson county to connect to Clark county. In order to get from one county to another, they needed to find a route to pass over the Black River. They decided to use an existing road bridge with CAUTION to see how riders would behave themselves when using the route to cross. So far riders have been responsible so please take it easy otherwise they will break the connector trail. The connector trail really is the key as we always stay at the hotels in BRF and then ride into Clark county. Riding to Rock Dam Lake is a blast and the tavern at the lake serves cold beer and good pizza :)
We have a group of about 25 going in June. I will be up there in May with my family.

I REALLY wish the god damn DNR would quit makin culverts to divert water off the trail, which in turn leads to less mud holes. That is what makes them trails so fun and challenging to ride with my 450R :D .

we went up last year during the "monsoon" and had a good time (the best we could seeing as it was pouring and the trails were really sloppy - at least they are mostly sand). the sand and water combo wore out all of our rear brake pads (2 friends and I, all on 400exs).
we went again when it was dry and that was tons more fun. i love the trail coming north from milston that shoots off to the west. its really scenic and it winds through the woods with a lot of berms.

I have only been on the brf trails a few times. I do not care for them as much as the clark county trails. Since the dirt bikes are on them it makes it rough. Dirt bikes are not allowed on the clark county trails.
If anyone ever plans on going up there for a ride post it here. I go up about every other weekend to ride. I will be going up again to ride on Sunday if anyone is interested. It will be me on a pred and two friends on stock 450r's and another on a stock 400ex. We always have fun and know the trails like the back of our hands. We usually start between osseo and fairchild at my parents house. If anyone is interested let me know.

Well I tried to go this sunday but the rain would not allow me to do so. It was cold and wet so I decided not to go. I did finaly get a pick of my machine though. I will let you know when I am going next. It probably would not be until the trails open back up in May.
yea i would rather go on the clrack county one. WAY better IMO. so you should reconsider and go to the clark county ones the weekend after 4th of july. but i am up for goin to both of them. they are all connected so we could ride on both of them in the same day. my borther, me, my dad, and prolly 3 friends would wanna go.

hey, we will ride both sets of trails. i dont know how everyone else does it, but we camp almost smack dab in the middle of the trail system. we camp in Jackson county but from the campground the Clark county trails are closer and easier to get to.
like i said, we usually ride south one day and north the next. sometimes we go for a night ride too. its such a great time, man i love riding..............

I went up riding last weekend on the state trail that runs from fairchild to mondovi I bought a new carb from foxrace and it worked out great. As far as I know the clark county trails open may 15th but I was told that the brf trails are open on may 1st. This is something that I will have to check on but the state trail was fun just to rip wide open on.

may 20th one of my friends from iowa is coming up to ride with me. He is bringing one of his friends and two of my buddies will be riding with us. We will ride friday sat and sun for a while. They are heading back sunday on a 6 hour trip so they will not ride too much sunday. hopefully the weather is nice so we can camp out otherwise people can crash on the floor. if anyone is interested in riding with us let me know. O we will mainly be on the clark trails because the brf trails will be way to busy since it will be the first weekend open.

Is it true that you need a ATV safety course to ride in Wisconsin now? My brother and I have been concidering doing some riding in that area.
hey mynewtoy,
What part of Iowa are your friends from? I live in northeast Iowa. North of Waterloo.
Also my wife and I are curently looking or a reasonably priced cabin for sale in Wisconsin. Any of you guys know how or where I can find Cabins for sale in Wisconsin?
Thanks

The safty course is for kids under the age of 12, i think. Either way its for minors. As far as a cabin. try going to www.firstweber.com they have an online property finder/veiwer.

As far as I know they do not ask for any kind of safety as long as you have a drivers license and a social security card. The ss is to get your trail pass for out of state riders. I have not taken atv safety and I do not plan on taking it until my daughter is old enough to ride.
I want to say that josh is from anken? but I am not sure. I know it takes him almost 6 hours to drive to my parents in osseo. he came up last year to ride and he must have had fun because he is coming back but this time he is bringing two friends. He did tell me last year that he has never ridden on such great trails. He did tell me that out of all the places he has been wisconsin is the best. josh travels all over to ride but I think wisconsin is the best trails personally.
my girlfriends mom is a realitor so I will ask her what site is best to find what you want.

If any of you guys have not registered on WATVA.org , go there and check out the message board.
Some of the slow riders are giving us bad looks for the way we ride. I tried my best to tell them we are more experienced riders. Can you believe that most of these guys think it is ok to ride without a helmet and goggles but criticise our riding choice.

there is a ride going on this weekend. I know it is a short notice but we are going to ride fri sat and sun. I have a few friends coming. It should be 5 or 6 of us on the ride. if anyone is interested let me know. By the way the carb is awesome. it gave me so much more power. I do not know why you would get rid of it.

i wont be able to make it for a trail ride this weekend but once june rolls around and im done with track and school i want to get and ride a bunch. ya that carb was amazingly fast, but for some reason i couldnt get used to the the throttle.i had so much less control, and for xc racing, being in control is a bit more important than all that power.

Either going to BRF or to Dyracuse. Where will you guys be leaving from? I would probably park at the Arrowhead Lodge and grab the trail from there.
My boys want to go to Dyracuse to ride the bikes so we will see.

we are headed up from NW IL, its about a 4 hour drive. we will be staying at a campground in hatfield, its about in the middle of the trail system (its right by the gas station in hatfield).
it will be 2 red 400ex's and a yellow one, if anyone sees us on the trails feel free to stop and say hi. if you wanna ride with us just come by the campground in the morning or later in the afternoon. see ya later.

450ar, no we did not.....had to come into work :(
We will be at BRF this weekend!
Toadz400, dayum, that is bad news. Were they taken from your home? I have insurance on all my machines in the event of damage, theft etc...pretty cheap considering what could happen.
Toadz400
05-24-2005, 09:04 PM
They were taken from our house, no insurance on them either. Found the 400ex in the woods pretty much totalled and the cops let the Banshee slip right out of their hands. Even if they do catch the guy, he has no money so there's no way we could sue him to get the damages paid for.

We're trying to get some justice, still haven't found the guy or the Banshee. Cops let that one go, so hopefully they'll have to pay for that mistake, not us. A friend of mine has a dad for a cop and he's the one that has motivated all the other cops to do something about this. I'm sure if we didn't have a friend for a cop that nothing would be getting done. The day after they were stolen there were cops on all the roads near where they found the 400ex and they have been searching everywhere. Some people are mad at me for having so many cops out, now they can't speed as much anymore.

toadz that sucks.... I hate theifs. I hope they catch him and you atleast get your quads back. Check with your home owners insurance. They may cover the quad, cuase they were stolen form your property. Try it my buddies have gotten there bikes paid for when they got stolen.

I never been to brf. What kinda of trails are they and is there speed limits or any certain country trail sticker?

Trails are great. Some of them can get a little washboard'y but definately a blast. this photo was from a few years ago. BRF is where we stay and then motor from there. Clark county to the North is now open via a connector trail between the two counties. All they ask is that people respect the connector route (road through town) otherwise they will discontinue. Take it from someone who has been there for 20+ years...the connector trail is a PLUS otherwise it required you to trailer to Clark county parking lot and go from there.
Clark county has as nice if not nicer trails than BRF.
