i just wanted to let you guys who like to ride on lakes when there frozen to make sure the ice is thick enough. yesterday some people tried to cross a lake in my back yard with a jeep and went through.. divers got the lady out fast enough but the guy wasnt found until this afternoon frozen at the bottom of the lake so just be careful when going out on lakes.

here the ice is over 2 1/2 ft thick.. they plow roads on the lake so you dont get stuck in the snow.

they say 3-4 inches to walk on it, 5-8 for a sled or ATV. 11-15 for a vehicle.

Yeah man, you gotta be careful out there! I live close to a huge lake here in PA, and the other week some dude went thru the ice with his SUV partially! Crazy mofo.

Even when it is think, and 11-15 in. is a good guide, but still there can be weak spots where the ice is thin due to springs or whatever, or just the fact that ice is thinner in some spots than others.

Think before you go out there!;)

The only way you would get my ***** on a frozen lake is if i were on a sled! atleast if you hit open water you can still make it across:D

omg most people already know to check the ice but some still dont. an ice spud is bout 20.00 put it in the back of ur vehicle and walk out and spud a hole first...also a map of the lake will show you rivers and springs too, like the other guy said. stay away from flowing water, ice will be much thinner. ive driven on 11 not the most comfortable but its ok, anything more than 11 id say vehicles are no prob. i walk on 3 thou.

i wish i could find a picture to show you guys what it is like on a lake here, it is like a small city on the lake. they plow roads, dominoes even delivers pizza out there.

before we had any snow me and a buddy took my cavalier and got going about 60 on the ice (tires not spinning) then we would **** the light off and pull the E-brake, its was quite the experience.

It's like that here also . They plow roads wide enough for 4 cars side by side . I swear there's atleast 500 ice fishing shacks out there right now . Pizza places deliver to us also . All the roads that are plowed are marked , and by law all the shacks need to be registered with a number , so it's just like them delivering to your home .

Also 7 inches of ice is strong enough to hold a small car or truck . 3 - 4 inches is good for a person and maybe a snowmobile .
