View Full Version : Suspension: 300EX VS. stock 86 250R

Has the suspension improved on the new quads? Would a 96 300 ex have beter suspension than a 86 250R?? I'm thinking about buying a 300ex or a 400ex, but all I've ridden is a 250r, so want to know the suspension differences.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The suspension isn't nearly as good on a 300ex. A 400ex suspension is more along the lines with a 250R.

300ex suspension leaves a lot to be desired. If all you have ridden is an R...I would not recommend getting the 300. Don't get me wrong...I love mine, but the power is not that spectacular. The 400ex is the far better choice if you like the 250R power.

Just my $.02

I could be wrong, but from my years of experience reading and hearing people talk about suspension geometry and handling, everyone rates the 250r design superior over anything else out there. If I remember right, Honda designed the 400ex to specs close to the 250r's specs.

Note: There is a huge handling and suspension deference between the 300ex and the 400ex. If you want something comparable to a 250r's handling/suspension, I would think the 400ex would be the wise choice.

Good luck.

The Raptor is the closest to the 250R handling characteristics.(j/k)

I wish i could have an R. I like the 400 compared to the 300 all over.

if you want 250r handleing why not just get a 250r? thats what i would do(acually i did do) Ijust would prefer a 4-stroke know and the closest is the 400ex

400's sit much higher, and the 400's frames are stronger designs. The 400 handles very good, just in my opinion (riding my R all the time) 400's just sit high, you even look at them and tell.
