engine squeal at idle

after running for a little bit the engine will start to squeal mostly in idle but also when driving. i have no idea what this could be i do regular matinence monthly. any comments welcome

Is it a 400ex? If so I'm pretty sure I know what you mean and it's normal. Mine also makes a squealing noise sometimes until it's warmed up.

I'd also like to know what the noise is though.

yes its a 400ex and it will do this eaven after its warmed up

i think they all do, mine does, im not sure but if the tranny has straight cut gears, they will wine, straight cut is a type of gears, dont do if youve heard of pete jackson gear drives but they replace the timing chain on cars and they wine really loud, they are straight cut. people pay money for that noise.

its kinda like a whisteling more like a teakettle but much quieter

and about the whining tranny i said when at idle and while in neutral so im guessing its not the tranny and my quad just statred to do this this winter after snow riding

could it be from putting in too much oil??

Yeah I'm pretty sure I know what you mean. Does the noise change pitch too? I also put quite alot of oil in my machine, maybe thats whats causing it??

yea it does change pitch also when i changed the oil i little while ago i put in 1.9 quarts and still said it was low.

someone that knows about oil could this be whats causing it

yea i put 1.9quarts in to and my dipstick says low?! wwat the hell is that lol..

As far as the oil level goes, I always put in 2 and 1/8 quarts and that brings it up to just above the "high" mark.

I wouldn't worry too much about your squealing noise. It seems as though everyones 400ex does it.

As well as the oil issue, ussaly i put in the full 2 quarts and when warmed up its at the high mark. i also use 0w-40 Amsoil fully syn.
