Can anyone provide some insight on the proper way to measure and shim the buckets after replacing the cam? I changed to a Hot Cams stage 1 from the stock cam and want to make sure my valve tolerances are corrrect. Im not familiar with this kind of cam and valve setup, as all the cam swaps I have done have had rockers on them . Any help would be appreciated. Last thing I want to do is bugger up my new quad.

Make sure you have the engine at TDC. On the Exhaust side insert the feeler gauge between the rocker arm and the shim. Write down your clearances. On the Intake side you have to insert the feeler gauge between the cam lobe and the valve lifter. Again write down your clearances. Once you have all of your clearances you can use this equation to help you find the correct shims.

(recorded valve clearance - specified valve clearance) + old shim thickness = new shim thickness

If you look on you feeler gauges there should be standard and metric. You want to use the mm's. for this equation

Your old shims should be marked..... Examples 180 shim = 1.80mm
232 shim = 2.325 The shims will be in .025mm increments

Hope this helps
