i know it will wear the chain out eairlier but, i run 22's on my bike and 14/39 gearing, and in some tight trails it bogs and or i have to feather the clutch alot, these are rough rock trails, slow speed. in process of the heavier flywheel. any ideas? top speed isnt a concern, its still plenty fast.

go with either the 14/40 (less drastic)or a 13/38 (more drastic)

most people run the stock rear and 13t on the front.

I run a13t and i like it in the tight stuff, with 22 inch tall tires you will like it alot better also

I just ran a 12 / 40 for a tight quiet trail in a very long box canyon up in the Jemiz mountains...
The "R" was awesome !!!
We did some very slow tech riding and I had total control with no lugging, banging or knocking. What a great day !!
Stock chain worked fine with pleanty of adjustment.
Got the 40t rear at

i'm running a 13T front with stock rear. Although, i've been thinking about going back to the 14T and getting bigger on the rear. It's always better to go bigger on the rear. Going smaller on the front puts the chain on a tighter bind, thus shortening it's life.

what is the stock rear 38 or 39?

38, since i run 22's the 13t is putting me back to stock. the 12 should put me good for tight trails. i run a 39 stainless, wish i knew about the 40

I have stock 14 tooth and 22" rear tires on mine and before I was always feathering the clutch but now that I have my aftermarket exhaust I don't have to do that anymore....you should check out into that
