I was at The chatsworth track in south jersey and i saw two 400ex's with 18" tires in back and 19" in front. It looked much better and want to know y no1 else does this. Is is because u lose too much speed. Y wouldnt u just put a bigger sprocket up front to even it out?

Ground clearence my boy! Not everyone races motocross, and the reason they use them isnt for looks at all.

well i care about looks and these werent serious racers. I am gonna get 18"'ers because if my friends and i can ride his blaster with a skidplate and 18's on trails and not hit anything i think ill be fine

btw- if u didnt know blasters have very little ground clearence to begin with. tHAT IS THE REASON YAMAHAHA SELL THEM WITH THOSE HUGE TIRES

The speed loss isn't big...it's not missed on an MX track at all. What I can say is that they make my 416ex alot more stable (read: taking turns faster with more agressive cornering), yet being able to keep narrow for the woods. I can go through the muddiest, tight trails easily by just swapping over to my 22inch sur-traks and stock fronts.

Here's a pic with the 18's.

Yeah 18inch rears and 19-20 inch fronts are pretty much standard for motocross racers,

anyone tried those new Holeshot XCR's (i think? i cant keep em straight) the ones that are 23' fronts and 22' in back? im not a fan of 22' rears, but 23 inch fronts sounds like it might be a good thing?

You are thinking of the xct. The new xcr is a 20" tire.

I've been eyeing those 23 inch fronts for XC racing, their way to tall for MX. Running 20X11X9 razrs on the back right now. I've learned the hard way its best to copy what the fast guys run.

The 18 inch tamers also work great for hillclimbing too.

I would have to agree with ridered. Mostly you will see 18's on MX tracks. They are prfered there because your more concerened about quickness than speed. The 18's let your motor wrap up MUCH quicker.

If you plan on doin alot of trail type riding, i wouldn't get them. You are NOT going to like the how stiff the ride is going to be.

Just my thoughts...

I think if you are going to do a lot of riding at Chatsworth, that is on the track, I would recommend using the 18" rear tires and 19" fronts or 20" fronts. From there, you may want to start racing MX, which they run the 18" rears and 19" or 20" fronts. But if you are going to do the trails at Chatsworth, or any trails around NJ, I would keep the 20" tires on in the rear.:D
