Thanks, any pics would be helpful. I'm thinking about running them on my setup, and was wondering how they handle? My Works shocks suck, and were a waste of money.

if your works suck they probably need serviced or were not set up right, works are 100 times better than stockers

My works were setup up for someone a little heavier than myself (this being because I do a lot of weight training, so I anticipated my weight would increase) with an agressive riding style. They have rezzies and dual rate springs, and I still bottom out off of a small jump.

Now, I don't expect the Elka's to be miracle workers, but I am hoping they'll at least allow me to jump a little more. I was actually seriously hurt at one point because it bottomed so hard with the works, that it caused my ankle to dislocate, which caused my foot to come off the peg, and I was pulled underneath the quad. I have a picture or 2 of where it took the skin off the back of my leg if you wanna see that?

i garuntee your works are blown, if anything, you have the preload to soft (it makes a huge difference, even if they set up too stiff) not trying to talk you out of elkas i run them myself. i would just hate to see someone spend so much money when there is a much cheaper alternative

and you could send those shocks to pro action motorsports or DeRisi racing and end up with those shocks working just as well as elkas, without spending as much money

The shocks are almost new, and as for the preload adjustment, there isn't any. If there is, I have yet to figure out how the hell to use it. It doesn't have the collars like most shocks, so I know you can't adjust the preload that way. And I'm almost positive I remember reading the booklet that came with them, and it stated they have non-adjustable preload. As for their performance, it's unchanged since the day I got them. I ordered these, so they weren't used. And they still let me bottom out way too easy. So if I've blown them, I did it before I even got to ride it.

its called a clip on the top of the shock.. if u dont know how to adjust the preload on a set of works, u definatly dont need elkas..

There is no clip that I've been able to find on the top of the shocks. And like I said before, i received paper work with these, and I'm almost positive they said "non-adjustable preload" But, if someone can post a pic of this clip, and how I'm supposed to adjust the preload on these, then please post it.

I'm going to go out today and try to find this clip on my Works, but I doubt I'll find anything. It'll be about the millionth time I've looked over these shocks, and I've yet to find anything

you have to compress the srping, pull the reainer out and take off the springs. then you move the top collar and you will see grooves with a clip in one. move the clip down the shock to stiffen it then put it all back together

I did manage to find the spring clip, but the preload came maxed out from the factory. So, I can't add any more preload to it that way. And I highly doubt the shocks are blown. They're still as stiff(which is actually pretty soft) as the day I put them on. So, as soon as I have the extra money, I'm just going to send off for a set of Elkas.

big bad beny

Hey 300ex73

I agree with you, Works are good shocks but if you're aggressive you will find their limits. Elkas aren't as plush but have alot of bottoming out resistance, they will be a good upgrade. Plus you can sell the Works and get some of you money back.

Hey,

That quad looks awesome.

What kind of suspension travel has it been built for? I noticed the upper front mount.

I am looking to set my front and rear at 10.5 inches but I need to modify my airbox so the swingarm won't hit it.

Are you building yours without an airbox?

We are using std travel elkas for a 400ex on the front, std travel 300ex on rear. this set up works pretty well... the front end is 400ex aarms and shocks with our mount kit,,,,,,ATVA LEGAL!!! :) thats what we are shooting for....
um the aarms are around 500-550 i believe....give the shop a call and they can help you out with the whole setup...
yeah, if you have any ?'s about your quad, i could probably help you or find someone who could, hit me up on aim...if im not pounding the books, ill try and help ya out!!! (im at college)

I'm still going to get the Elkas before too long, but right now I'm going to see about having Derisi respring my Works. My parts guy says he's gonna call him and see about what it'll cost. I'm just gonna get some heavier main springs, and lighter secondary springs, hopefully it'll get the quad to sit a little lower, but still haver a little more resistance to bottoming out.

No, last year you couldnt have the relocator. You had to use stock shock mounts....some kids got DQ'd for the relocator...
