Hi, I am probably going to buy a 250r for my first year of mx.

I was sure that this is the quad for me until someone told me that you work on it twice as much as you ride it.

is that true or was it just for his 250r?

I have had zero problems out of my 87 250r. First off they are almost 20 years old, there are a bunch of them out there that are just wore out. You need to be sure when you buy one that you are buying a good quad to begin with. Most peope with 250r's either buy top notch or a pile of junk so they can build one they way they want. If you buy one that has a few after market parts and all the bearings are tight you will be good to go. You will be able to tell if its been taken care of, make sure to check the frame and cases for cracks. If you take care of an R they will take care of you, run good oil in them and ride. Only thing I do to mine is add gas and change the oil.
