I got a parts list made up and started tearing down my 250EX today. I'm having the frame painted as soona s it warms up. The thing I'm worried about the most is the engine and crankcase finish. I dont want to spend all this money fixing up my quad and have the engine look like crap. What happened was i went bogging one day and mud got baked and the cases. Now my motor has a brownish tint to it. I've tried aluminum wheel cleaner to no avail. Any other suggestions???? Please help me:confused:

thanks. Ithought about having the cases polished. I'll do that while the frame is being painted. How would i get the head to shine? As you may or may not know its not very easy to clean an air cooles engine.

i just painted mine silver with some heat paint!!
it looks nice and its easy to do because the paint is not touchy,
its stick pretty well to the metal if its clean and sanded!!

what coulors are you painting the frame and wath other colours are you using!!!

heres a pic of my motor!http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid153/p95dcb909d9b507b81d5d8d42aa14e86a/f59ad659.jpg.thumb

I think ill paint my frame red. Also, I was thinking about painting my plastics black. I looked at the process of doing so in the body forum and it seems overly complicated. Is it worth it??? What kind of paint should i use if i decide to paint the plastic? My stepdad can paint everything for me, he painted his dad's chevelle so I guess he's pretty good. If i had a digital camera i'd post pics of it. By the way, your pics arent showing.

my friwnd painted his plastics with car paint and then he clear coated them and it looks great!
I painted my nose peaces with spray paint and it worked well ,but if the fender isnt sanded correctely the paint will peal!!

I don't remember who did it but i just read a thread about this kid tearing down his 400 and rebuilding it his motor looked sweet, he said that he had the motor off took, used engine degreaser and the brillo pad with the soap in it with some water and scrubbed everything really really good and then spray painted it with 1200 degree heat paint (silver). It looked VERY good. If i go find what his name was i will let you know! ;)

Thanks everybody...I think I'll sandblast the motor and then paint it with that high temp paint.

be careful using a sandblaster on an engine,, any sand in an oil line would be disaster, it only takes 1 grain of sand in a bearing to trash it
