Why is the 400 just as heavy as the 300?

because it has reverse ? or maybe because the frame is thicker...:confused:

The 400ex motor came from a dirtbike , while the 300ex motor came from a utility machine.
The 300 also has reverse , alot of useless plastic crap on the bars, a steel swingarm. The 300 also has a square tube frame (dunno if that makes a diffrence.)

the 400 wieghs less than the 300 because of all the aluminum on the 400.

metal gas tank on 300, i dunno how much more that adds. But thats some more weight

OK, Reverse only adds like 5-7lbs,

Are you sure that the engine came from a utility machine? Well reverse, metal gas tank, thicker frame all make it heavier. It also wasn't designed for being a high-performance atv, it was more of a casual trail machine. Not a fast thumper for the mx track.
