Has anybody noticed a difference in sludge buildup in your rebuild using synthetic compared to regular oils .I heard a story about a Harley builder today who noticed an increase using synth.I've been running that new Mobil One 4 stroke formula and was curious.I was under the impression or common sense that synthetic was the way to go.I'm hearing that pistons, bearings are seizing. Thanks for any replies.

I've been running Motul 3500 from day one and haven't had any problems. I also change my oil a lot. Definitely after weekend trips, and after 5 hours of trail riding.

Synthetic is fine for your motor, just change it often as mentioned before. I've been running it for 4 years, rebuilt my motor about a month ago and I found no sludge and everything was in great shape, no excessive wear.

Now I have heard if you switch back and forth between the conventional and sythetic you will see the sludge build up.

Rico,I have heard that also.I found it hard to believe the buildup of sludge w/ synth. With all the research and testing done,Pro race teams would'nt chance it.

Yeah I've also heard that the switching back and forth of synthetics and regular will do that. I've used klotz synthetic for about year now and when i tore it down this winter there wasn't any sludge at all.

Don't use synthetic on a fresh engine rebuild, nes piston, rings. It does not like the break in process. i use regular oild for the first 10 hours, then Mobile 1. My engine was very clean inside with no visible wear. The reason i am saying not to use the synthetic for the initila rebuild is that my buddy fried two engines befor he called JE. They said not to use it for the break in, but after that it is fine.
