I was wanting to get one but first ive got some questions...
I know it gives you quicker acceleration, but how much top speed do you lose? How much do they cost? Who makes the best one?And are they worth it?

Thanks

Renthal makes the best ones, I think they are around $10. I heard that you lose about 7mph but gain a lot more accel.

$10? try about 25. I agree with the renthal statement though. It will give you way better accl. but you will lose around 4-5 rpm. I suggest this sprocket for woods riders and the 16 tooth for more open straight ways.

i think im confused, what size sprocket is stock? dont you go a tooth smaller to get more acceleration and less top end??

Stock is 15 tooth

small front sprocket and bigger back= less top end, more accel.
taller front and smaller back= more top end, less accel.
on a 400ex the stock gearing is 15 on front and 38 on the back...a 300ex i think is 13 and 38 maybe? not sure...hope this helps.

oh ya, i got a 14 tooth on my 400, but i took it off cuase it takes away quite a bit of top end, i would say close to 5 mph, but it gets wound out really quick..good for draggin and playing around. andrew:devil

Renthal are about 25 cheaper are 10. But you get what you pay for.

I have one I am about to put on myself.

I have a question about a 14t. I do a lot of hillclimbing.
Esp. in first gear. most of the hills don't have a big take off.

What will a 14t sprocket do for me..
Will I be to tall in second on these hills.

or will I be better ?

And I will be running some woods races . so it will at least help me out there.

I hope this didn't confuse you quadtrx .

I have a gps mounted to my handle bars, I lost 20 mph (top speed) with the 14t sprocket, but the low end torque is greatly improved.

20 mph!!!!!!! your kiding right???

There is no way you lost 20mph, I was going 62mph w/ my 14 tooth so that would mean with stock I would be going 82mph

He must have meant 2mph....

I've got an idea for all, put on a 14 tooth, lose 15 pounds, and you'll never be able to tell the difference...

Whoops! On top end that is! Bottom end should REALLY scream then!

I put a 14 tooth on mine and I swear I lost at least 10 MPH. Gained some in the bottom but IMO not enough to justify running the 14 tooth full time! :(

does anyone make a 37 tooth back spocket that should put you between a 14 and 15 tooth front spocket .anyone agree or disagree with this formula?

I kinda agree with that formula only you would have to go up a tooth on the rear sprocket....to 39.
I use the 14 tooth sprocket and I think maybe I lost about 2 MPH top end....hllclimbs are alot easier in second gear now.....Ill stick with the 14 tooth.

That was no typo, with the 15t my gps regularly gave me a top speed of 76.1 mph, with the 14t on a hard packed road, the right wind conditions and the fenders greased the top speed has been 57.4 mph, I've tried several times, I very rarely use 1st gear, only when I'm in trouble and the torque out of 2nd and 3rd is incredible, I can pull a wheelie up comp. hill.

Sorry to tell you but you weren't going 76mph, you might want to check your gps.

Does anyone know of a great setup for motocross racing? What would a 34 tooth sprocket in the rear and a stock tooth front? More top end or bottom end? Or should I go with a 14 and a stock rear sprocket? Thanks for any info!
