I just installed an 87mm high compression piton and a stage 1
Hot cam, I was just wondering what the best break in procedure is. The Hot cam says not to let it idle and run it for at least 30 min. at 3000 rpm or better. Then the top end break in procedures say to start the motor and let idle for 10 min. and then let it cool and repeat step 2-3 more times. Any help would be appreciated.

Dont let it idle at all! You need to put a load on the rings so they can properly seat. Break it in like your going to ride it. Ride it good and hard! Ask and see if someone knows the link to that break in procedure from that moto guy. It slips my mind.

Vary the RPMs and don't lug it.

i was told to go ride it for 10 minutes at a time and let it cool completely down between each ride for 2 tanks of gas. go easy on it the first couple of times, don't lug it and vary the rpms. this allows for the rings to seat properly.

breaking in a motor is very controversial. This is what im going to do with mine once i get it finished and i have a very similar build stg 2 cam and 11 to 1 piston.

what i am going to do is vary the rpms once i got it running. ride it varying the rpms until it is warmed up more then start to gradualy take the rpms higher and trying not to put loads on the motor such as going up hills. once i have around 5 hours on it ill change the oil. thats all i have so far i will probably do it again until a total of 7 to 13 hours and change the oil again then ride it normal after that.

this question has been in my mind for quite some time. normal break in and hotcams breakin are different so what to do?

Here's how I break my engines in, and it has worked very well:

Start engine up, let it idle at a fast idle until engine is warmed up enough to ride. Ride machine at different RPMS and loads for about 5-10 minutes and let engine completely cool. After engine is cooled down, fire it up and let it idle for a minute or so, ride it for another 5-10 minutes at different rpms and loads, and change the oil and let it completely cool down.

The next ride is about 15-20 minutes before I let it cool down. I do this twice and change the oil again. During this period, I give it a couple short bursts of WOT.

After the second oil change, I ride it like normal, I.E. I ride the piss out of it.
