cutting out?

my bike was cutting out alot yesterday in lower RPM's and now it just does it the whole time, i shut the bike off in the garage and went in to eat, when i came back there was a huge puddle of gas under the bike its coming from the overflow hose. I tried tapping the carb to see if the float was stuck perhaps, would that cause the bike to stall reall bad like that when giving it gas?
also i just did a valve job Sat. for the first time, but valvetrain makes less noise than before.
