I was gona pic up my 450r sometime this month but in the paper i saw a 2001 440ex bigbore with everything everymarket that you can put on its from axis shocks and longtravel a-arms and beadlocks, swingarm rear shock pc gusseted frame. i sat on it and this thing is shard it doesnt even look likes its be in the dirt. I have ridden friends 450r and love them but this guy only what 5500 for it and it looks to have like 7 or 8k in it, what are them 440s like and will it compare to the 450r? where i live i can get the 450r at around 6300 at the least

Now a days you probably can pick up a PIMP 440 for around 4,300

Here is my 440 i picked it up for 3,800 and all it needed was a new head gasket. Ran like a bad ***, but the reliablity was CHIT! for the price i couldnt beat it so i parted it out and kept some parts to put on my R. Doesnt even compare to the 440! but then again i have never rode a stock R, as soon as i got it i rode it up and down my drive way and put an HRC kit in it, piped, and all the suspension mods. I was able to part out the 440 and still have exstra cash and parts to put into the 450

Also i picked up my R in MINT cond. only had 4hrs on the motor, AC nerfs, HMF system, Hood, T2bars for only 4,500

I hope i answered your question but let me know if u need anything else

I have a 440 that blows head gaskets, and once the 450s hit 4th they leave me.
Going to get a 450r soon though.

Personal experience-
I rode Dumont this last weekend with my Trinity 440EX with aftermarket carburetor. Here are some results. Beat various 450R's that were stock, end cap removed and re-jetted, Big Gun Pipe, and other after-market exhausts. Some 450R's beat me, but less than half. There was 1-450R that was beating everyone. Beat various piped Raptors, some Predators, however I did get beat by some of those with modifications unknown. I stayed close, 2-3 bike lengths with DS650's. I beat like 4 YFZ's stock and piped, but the majority of the machines destroyed me. Beat some Banshees. There were a ton of 450R's there which surprised me. One of the funniest things on the week-end was when a guy on a piped 450R called me out----but he would only race me if we started half-way up the hill, past the whoops. A hill without whoops, what a joke!! Needless to say I beat him, when I started at the base of the hill and he started half-way up the hill. The 450R's didn't seem to handle the whoops very well and the power output was not much more than my 440EX. I was interested in selling my 440EX for $3000 and purchasing a 450R, but now I am rethinking that idea. That is my input on your thread.

oh, alright. it's just really ironic that i race with steve dibble, he is from pa., he now rides a crf hybrid with silver plastic and k and k graphics, his # is 26, and he used to own a 400ex. i thought that was the one, but i guess i was wrong.
