Need Help changing belt on 00' MXZ700..

I just got my first sleed a 2000 mxz 700 and i have to change the belt. I got the old one off fine but now i can't get the new one to tighten up. To remove the old one i put the t handle tool in the threaded whole and tighten it up. The books says to do the opposite to put the new belt on. So i slid the new belt on and unthreaded the tool. Belt still is loose. What am i missing here?

Did they give you the right belt??? Thats the most common mistake made , is getting the wrong belt and it's too loose . Seen it happens hundreds of times ( litterally)
