YES, someone finally understands...

NO, you cannot get rear Hipers wheels with an extended axle much over 47-48"... Here is why...

All rear hipers with the intergrated huds are designed off the 250r. If you look at 250r stock hubs and 400ex stock hubs you will notice that the 400ex hubs "protrude" as to where the 250R hubs are more flat. If you compare a 250r and 400ex axle side by side the R axle will be about 2.5" longer (stock axles and aftermarket, dont matter which). Well, since the 250r hubs are flatter, the axles have to be longer and since the 400ex hubs protrude more, their axles are narrower. Well, since the Hiper hubs are designed from the 250r, they are made short. Well, the difference between a 250r and 400ex rear hiper is just a different spline insert (same hub thought), therefore you will not get a 400ex with rear hipers and an extended axle over about 48" because the hipers think they are on a 250r... Understand??

I am guessing the 450R and 400ex Hubs are the same, therefore the axle lenghts are the same, therefore you wont get max width...

Now you can get 9" hipers without hubs and get up to 50".

Well, will a 250r axle fit in a 400ex carrier, so that you could get the 50". If you could you would have to use 250r hippers or hubs though right?

A 250r axle will fit in the 400 carrier, but you will have to use 250r hubs on the axle. You wont have to change anything on the hipers if they are honda bolt patteren.

yes a 250r axle will work in a 400ex but you have to have a spacer of about 1/8" to make it work right. You could change everything over to 250r if you wanted... Axle, carrier, caliper, rotor and anti-fade(or locknuts). Then you also will have a dual piston rear brake system, and you can use Hipers with 250r splines and get up to 50"... 400ex and 250r sllines are real close, just one spline different.

So I mounted these and went racing today 48'' wide. When the gate dropped I dumped the clutch and the axle spun out every bit of spline in hoth hiper hubs. Now, how do I get 50" and some hubs w/good splines?

you didnt have the right splines... Where did you get the hipers from??

this sucks..

so if I want to put my 400ex RPM axle on my 450 ( removing the rpm sproket hub and putting my RAD twinrow 400ex carrier in the 450r swingarm ) I wont be so wide if I put Hipers on it?? this sucks hiper should get off their asses and make a good hub :grr:

I want these wheels for so long but i dont want to pay for something that will make my bike look like stock width :huh

can you not buy an 8 inch integrated hub hiper in a 3-5 or 3-6 offset? these would be an inch wider each than a stock 4-5 wheel

Good question Bradley. I'll be talking to hiper tomorrow to find out what my options are. If you guys get some scoop on this send it my way.

c-dales have the wider offset and are honda pattern so i'm sure they make them

did you call them?

Yeah I called them and hate to say it but I got 25 spline instead of 24. The 450r comes w/spacers supposed to widen them, but I don't see space on my axle for any more spacers. These are 3-5 offest and they only measured 48". The ITP 3-5 offsets I took off the rear measured 50". Anyone know what's the deal? An engineer was supposed to call me back from Hiper yesterday, I'm still waiting for that call.

If you read what I tried to explain you will see the problem!

I'll read it again, but I'm just not sure I'm following. Do you have someone on the inside or are a couple of your points assumed? Not trying to say you don't know what you're talking about, just doesn't make every sense that a company w/leading technology in a particular area would be lagging behind the free-thinking of a few average intelligence(speaking for myself) quad pilots. I'm hoping we might just be overlooking something. No offense.

I had the same problems you did and I called hiper also. They told me that their hubs were designed from a 250r hub. I told them about the problem i was having and they understood but didnt say much more. This was about a year ago also. The next hipers i buy will be 9" that dont have the stupid intergrated hubs.

Im sure that there is enough room for another small spacer on my RPM 400ex axle so I will fabricate it and give it a try then ill be at 50.

Thanks 416. That's just about what I expected to hear. It answers the questions I didn't ask. I have designed a hub and faxed the plans to a dozen machine shops in town to fix the whole thing. I'll let you know the cost and the outcome.

I'm a HiPer dealer and I just got a set in with integrated hubs and they now come with a spacer to widen the rear end out more.

I talked to Hiper and they sent me the spacers. I don't have room for them on my G-Force and they wouldn't give me back the 2" total I lost. Let me know how it works for you.
