V.I.N. question

I am looking to buy a frame and was wondering if there was a way to have the #'s checked to make sure everything is up to par. I just don't want to have any troubles when I go to register it,or if by chance have a run it with the police and have the whole bike impounded

thats what i did when i bought my old 250r. wrote it down...went to the dmv and had them put it into the computer to check the previous owners etc.
