View Full Version : What's the advantage of 13/35 gearing??

I heard a guy the other day say that he was running a 13 tooth front sprocket and a 35 tooth rear sprocket on his 450r.I don't understand what he accoplished by doing this.If you drop 1 tooth in the front it gears it down and by dropping 3 in the rear it would gear it back up.What did he accoplish by doing this?i am just curious:confused: :confused:

No matter what the 450R needs to have a 13 tooth on the front. I run anywhere from a 36 rear to a 40 rear. Depending on tire size and what im doing. The 36 will have great top speed for drag racing, and the 40 gets me more where I need to be for the dunes and my 20 inch Haulers.

You can figure out the gear ratio by dividing the rear sprocket by the front sprocket. 35/13=2.6923... while the stock gearing yields 38/14=2.7143... By doing this, he gained a little higher gearing ratio for more top speed. Whoever did it may have though 38/15 or 39/14 was too much of a jump.

he accomplished having less rotational mass. if he drag races then the less weight the motor has to spin the better off he is, on the down side his sprockets are going to wear faster
