I have a 2004 400 EX and my buddy and I were side by side, he was in his vet and i was on my quad, I had it up to 67 on a flat road and going slightly down hill it reached 70. That should give you some idea. This all depends on the weight of the rider too. I weigh about 180 lbs.

Actually, I believe the newer models come with lower gearing, right? They probably really do around 60mph, a little more I believe, but somewhere around 65mph should be accurate for the average bike at best. The bikes are really awesome though, congrats. For the price and what you get..... it makes them even better.

The guy with the CR never said he was faster.... I think he knows what a 400 would do to him. ;)

Im sick of morons that think there 400EX is the fastest things around. they are the slowest ATV of there class, the only thing they are good at is reliability.:grr:

we are giving real world answers there buddy...maybe in canada, where it is colder, the 400 don't hit the top speed that us warmer fellers get, eh?

dude, just joking with ya...many factors affect the top speed, and some times one bike will take to the same mods better than another of the same year and model...just chill boys

top speed for a stock 400ex is 68..i would think you could go a bit faster with the 16t sprocket,no?

dude, I know from having a CR125, and a CR250 that that CR85 WILL NOT run 70mph. The 125 will run that or a bit under, not an 85 unless you have some sproket like a garbage can lid.

However, seeing how you handled yourself, CONGRATS, you are an idiot. Yeah, I would like to bet, as I have an 85, and so does my buddy. And... I would like to bet that mine would smoke yours. I am not even going to explain all what I have in mine, it isn't worth my time.... but, I will say that my bike has a bit of work starting with my KX 100 engine. It is faster than my 400EX, but not by alot. The bikes are powerful, but uhh....... get a real bike.

And as to you saying things about people saying the 400EX is fast, but it sucks.... again, another dumb comment. No one says that they are the best..... I have a 450r and it can walk all over it. But... when you start modding them, it is a different story. The bikes don't get the credit they deserve.

Are you kidding me? I rode wheelies past a 300ex on my cr85, and for 400exs, they had a touch more top speed, i won the drags bc i had them all the way ( 2 stroke more accelration) and if you think a 125 cant beat a 400ex you should be shot in the heaf and dumped in a river.

idk if this is right but they clocked me at 77mph

No joke about my cr, i did get it honed out though after it blew up from out running a 400ex;) jk he had 2 bike lenghts on me, but know, there less speed and accel. But im buying a 400ex, for the reliblity and tourque and so i can ride at night. Or a yfz.

Wow, this thread has gotten really OT. Sorry for posting such an apparently lame joke and from what it looks like kind of starting this. Coming from a guy with experience on both I am just trying to tell you the truth..... though others and myself have brought this to an unnecessary level.
