i ride a 400ex that is mostly stock. it has a modded airbox and a whitebros e series pipe. i want to regear to go faster. i mostly ride desert and dunes. it has 20" holeshots and 20" edges. what should i gear it to? should i just go up a tooth on the front?

Up one tooth on the front is the cheapest, as front sprockets generally are not as expensive as rear sprockets. But up one in the front is also a rather drastic change, almost the same as going down 3 in the rear.

I say go for it. Unless you're really mechanically declined, you won't screw anything up. It's cheap, it's easy, and it may be exactly what you're looking for. If not, you're not out all that much money.

you can also get a new rear sprocket with less teeth to acheive a higher top speed. a plus with this is you have more sprocket to ground clearance :D i have a 33 tooth on back with a 14 up front and its goin fine... and i have 20 inch turf tamers on the back (or maybe theyre 18 inch i forget)
