This is the first quad I've ever had. I bought it off a friend for $1,000. It was in rough shape. I wish i had a pic of it when i had first bought it. The only things that were different from this pic, where that it had the original red seat cover, shocks, tires, and clutch/brake lever assemblies, and it had Renthal bars on it.

And here are the most recent pics. There are many things I changed, even switched the Pro Tapers for a new bend. I know the powdercoating on the frame doesn't look that fancy, but when you see it up close, it really makes it shine. And prolly in the next week or so, I'll be pulling the motor again, to finish cleaning it up.

There's more waiting to be done to it as well, but like everything about this sport, it's takes time and money.

The tank decals are actually from a generic decal kit intended for the 02 CR250R. They're from NStyle. I ordered the kit from www.rockymountainatv.com for about $16 I think. It also included the NStyle decal right below my seat, the Honda decals on the front of the a-arms, and the Pro Honda Oils decals on the swingarm. Lots of other Honda decals with it too.

I say take some degreaser cleaner and clean up that motor a bit and you'll be straight...;)

I gotta yank the clutch cover back off real soon, so I'm prolly just gonna yank the motor back out, and clean it up.

The motor looks to have a little corrosion on the outside, I doubt degreaser will clean it. I doubt even a pressure washer will clean it. You may have hit it with a scotch-brite wheel, a sander, or even sandblast it (be sure to cover all ports) to get it to clean up nicely. I had a motor that looked similar, and eventually had to sandblast it to get the corrosion off.

The thing that REALLY makes me think it's corrosion is that all the cast metal parts of the case and cylinder are brown and dirty-looking, but the side covers are not. The side covers are not the same cast, but actually painted to LOOK the same color. The cases and cylinder will eventually get surface corrosion and rust, but the painted side covers obviously will not, and eventually the colors don't match.

I don't know what kind of protective coating the engines come with, if any, but you would certainly want to replace this protective coating after sandblasting. I'd shoot an PM over to Pappy, as a coating specialist, he may be able to help you.

The brown coloring on the motor is really just baked on oil and mud. Basically, if i get down and scrub the motor really good, it'll look a lot better. But, I'd rather be out riding than spending all my time cleaning the thing.
