well its not really a "power" tick but the motor on 2 of my buddies z-400s have a tick then they run them.......my one friend took his 2 hellbound and they said it was the crank barrings.............what do you guys think

How old is the bike? How long has it been ran since last rebuild? My guess with the way the Z400's are, Its not crank bearings. The cranks in the z400's are pretty stout. If it was me i would check the timing chain. The timing chain in those are bad about wearing out fast.

if the motor hasnt been messed with, dont worry about valve lash or any bearing, thats bull if they said it was crank bearings,

its most likely the cam chain, take off the tentioner and see how many clicks are left on it, and if its close to eing all teh way out get the alba extension or get a d.i.d. cam chain

I'm that kid. iv had this moter stripped down to the crank twice and both times nothing was wrong. all of the clearences and temeperances checked over. It runs perfect and i jus dropped a 440 kit and jetted the carb. id hate to put it this way but i guess ill find out when it breaks

If it is a very faint tick then it is normal. The first time mine did it I freaked out and took it to the mechanic. $100 later he told me it was fine and normal. I wouldn't worry unless it gets really loud. That was two years agao when I first noticed it by the way and it is still running as strong as ever.

The ticking sound in my z has been the timing chain .I found out sumthin f/ tearing my quad apart ..i found out that the timing chain tensioner is to shot for the strech that the timing chain has. if u take out your tensioner and has a machine shop make you one exacly the same but 4-7mm longer it will tighten the chain back up and will stop the ticking. my quad has ran fine ever since
