I was just wondering if anybody has used the new sparks x4 cam. If so what do you think. I was thinking about getting it.

I was told that this cam is pretty much just good for drag racing, and that the Sparks aggressive, or 02/03 crf cam depending on who you ask, is the better all around cam.

The Sparks X-4 cam is actually a megacycle x-2 cam. This cam will provide you will a little bit more top end than the HRC cam but it will also provide a little less bottom end than the HRC cam. The sparks agressive was a 02 crf cam.

What kind of riding is it that you will be doing? You need to match your cam, pipe ect, ect, to the type riding you do.

Here are the measurements on the sparks/megacycle cam:
Brand in lift exh lift Int dur ext dur lobe int. ex lobe
X-2/X-4: 0.412 0.35 260 268 108 108

trost,
in my other thread
http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=139262

i have drawn a layout of the MEGA X2 timing. This cam is a mid-to-top cam and is a better all around compared to HRC. The MEGA X2 does have more overlap than HRC. the more overlap a cam has the less bottom end grunt.

I will mainly be useing it for mx

For mx you would be better off with a hotcam stg 2, they make a little more power through the power band than the 02/04 crf cam plus they are a lot cheaper.

Right now I have the sparks aggressive drop in cam with the 13 -8-1 piston full sparks exhaust and the titainum valves. So you think the cam I have now will do better than the x4 with this settup. Do you think there would be a noticable difference on the bottom for power.

noticable lose of power on the bottom with the x4

Yes the loss on bottom would be very noticible in comparison, A high compression piston would help fix this.

What kind of riding do you plan on doing Trost?

If you are a mx'er stick with the agressive cam, The x-4 would be a cam for tt racing.

he has a high compression piston (13.8:1) and the spark pipe for low. he has enough low for mx- he needs some top now

True but I think that the x-2 is too much, maybe the HRC cam but nothing larger. You really need that low and mid for MX, not even the pro's run that big of a cam in mx.

yea, your right the x2 is probally little to big for mx,...

looking back at your post earlier in the thread you recommended Stage 2

stage 2 would probally be the best between 02crf and HRC. I think the hrc is all top. the x2 has more top than hrc, but also has strong mid range that hrc doesn't have. the stage 2 powerband is in between 02crf and HRC.

oh, one more thing to mention... the x1 is for tt, the x2 is for mid-to-top used for XC with bore/stroke help, and the x3 is for drag

when you guys talk about the x2 that is the mega cycle right. The same thing as the sparks x4
