Cam installation

just bought a new hotcam stage 2 wiseco piston 426 and was wondering if there was anything i should know about installing it.

There's a lot to know about installing it. First thing to do is buy a service manual. 2nd thing to do is follow the instructions on how to remove and install a cam....;)

hotcams claims to be a drop in cam but they never specified where to drop it :huh

dont forget to remove the decompression dowel and spring and leave it out! You dont want that floating around in your engine after your install.

decompression dewel...............whats that look like? haah this is my first time looking at the inside of a wheeler engine and definatly my first time doing this.

I was just wondering about anything i should know about checking my valve clearences. i've never done that either. its a 99 engine so im sure they will have to be adjusted.

when you pop the valve cover off, and take out the cam, there will be a little dowel inside the head. It is on the clutch side of the engine. It is really tiny, but you cant miss it. Remove that dowel and there is a spring down in the hole too, so you'll need a magnet or something to take it out. Check with hotcam for valve clearances as they will have to be adjusted for the new cam anyways.

Here's link to a "how to" for installing the Stage 1 cam. I know it's not a stage two, but the dowel pin and spring are clearley illustrated. Hope this helps.
