As the riders started to show up, they were all quite surprised at the layout of the track. Last year it was more of a TT style track with only a couple small jumps. This year it was a semi-real supercross track. This is the shot of the finish line jump. They said it was about 85 feet to the downside!

WestCoast Editor
01-16-2005, 09:56 PM
Factory suzuki riders were there including Doug Gust.

WestCoast Editor
01-16-2005, 09:59 PM

01-16-2005, 10:33 PM
And a rider who needs no introduction, The 2004 Pro Quads Stadium Series Champion, Factory Honda rider Tim Farr

WestCoast Editor
01-16-2005, 10:52 PM
Before all the racing got underway, there was a mandatory meeting for all riders, reporters, photographers, and track crew. They explained all the new safety rules to everyone...

WestCoast Editor
01-16-2005, 10:54 PM
Everyone was paying very close attention...

WestCoast Editor
01-16-2005, 11:04 PM
As we got to the first Qualifier, some of the 41 original entries had decided to not race because of some of the tecnical areas on the track were just a little to much. It's better to be safe than sorry... And now for some racing.

Q1 was Natalie, Baker, Jones, Robinson, And Bartuzzi

WestCoast Editor
01-16-2005, 11:07 PM
Not much of a surprise Natalie got the holeshot and took off.

WestCoast Editor
01-16-2005, 11:09 PM
Jones was in pursuit but these qualifiers are very short. It's all about the start.

WestCoast Editor
01-16-2005, 11:12 PM
When Baker went down Robinson moved into third and the final spot for that Q.

WestCoast Editor
01-16-2005, 11:21 PM
Q-2 was Farr, Stewart, Guzman, Granlund, and Hinsz. Granlund got the jump off the line, but Farr had the inside line and got the holeshot.

WestCoast Editor
01-16-2005, 11:24 PM
Farr was showing everyone how he won the Championship last year by winning his Q fairly easy.

WestCoast Editor
01-16-2005, 11:25 PM
Stewart rode a good Q and reeled in second to go to the main.

WestCoast Editor
01-16-2005, 11:29 PM
Nick Granlund looked real good. He was one of the smoothest on the track. He got the final spot in his Q to move on. (Not bad for an old guy)HaHa.

WestCoast Editor
01-16-2005, 11:42 PM
As they lined up for Q-3 the seats were starting to fill up.
Q-3 Little, Farley, Chislock, Munio, Pimentel, and Nelson

WestCoast Editor
01-16-2005, 11:44 PM
As they all left the line at the same time, it was a drag race to the corner.

WestCoast Editor
01-16-2005, 11:46 PM
Keith Little got the holeshot followed closely by a new face in the pro class, Tony Munio.

WestCoast Editor
01-16-2005, 11:51 PM
Dustin Nelson moved into second behind Little putting Munio in third right ahead a Chislock. Nelson is a former 2-wheeler gone Quad. He is really enjoying racing Quads, and he is FAST...

WestCoast Editor
01-16-2005, 11:54 PM
Munio was able to hold onto third and final spot, right up till the end.

WestCoast Editor
01-16-2005, 11:57 PM
Cyle Chislock was able to get around Munio before time ran out, putting himself into the main with the third place finish. Munio would now have to run the LCQ.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 12:22 AM
Q4 lineup was Ellis, Leaver, Smith C, Patton, Smith B, Ragan

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 12:28 AM
This Q was red flaged within the first 15 seconds. Kory got the holeshot but as they were headed across the dreaded double a couple riders went down. Brandon Smith was taken to the hospital with some serious injuries but we hear he is ok. His brother who was in the same Q went down in the next section and was knocked out.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 12:30 AM
As they lined up for the restart Cody Smith after a KO managed to get back to the line. He's the one in the back...

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 12:32 AM
Another great start from Ellis.... and it's off to the finish line!

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 12:36 AM
Patton was behind Ellis in second, but just didn't seem to be riding as well as he could. He had a couple bad crashes in Texas last week where he hurt his wrist. It may have been bothering him tonight.. He did hang onto third to make the Show.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 12:38 AM
Cody Smith after his crash in the first start came back to get second, securing himself a spot in the main..

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 12:40 AM
Danny Ragan seem to be having some problems, he was another one that would have to go to the LCQ to try and make the SHOW.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 12:59 AM
Q5 this was the last regular Q. If you missed out you would have one more chance later in the LCQ.
Q5 Lawson, Gust, Fredericks, Lyons, Schell and McClure

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 01:01 AM
Another great start. Lawson was on the inside lane with Gust next to him. Gust got squeezed out in the first corner.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 01:06 AM
Jeremy Schell took advantage of this and got the holeshot with McClure right behind.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 01:10 AM
Gust was in third behind McClure but not for long. Before the end of the first lap McClure goes down and Gust passes Schell. This is a very short track and things happen fast.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 01:12 AM
Schell is now chasing Gust and Lyons is in third. Lawson has fallen back to fifth.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 01:19 AM
Fredericks has now moved into the third and final spot to move up.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 01:20 AM
Lyons will now have to run the LCQ and so will Lawson.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 01:21 AM
Schell gets second with a very impressive ride, to move up.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 01:23 AM
Gust takes the win in his Q after not getting such a great start!

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 10:41 AM
The LCQ or Last chance Qualifier.. If you didn't finish in top three in you Q this was it. All the riders would line up and go. There were already 15 spot taken so this one they took the top 5.
LCQ-Ragan, Bartuzzi,Bender, Munio, Lyons, Leaver, Baker, Pimentel, Lawson, McClure, and Guzman.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 10:44 AM
Lyons got the holeshot and was gone....

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 10:45 AM
As they came around leaver was in second.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 11:00 AM
McClure was in third

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 11:01 AM
Munio had a better start but was now back in fourth..

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 11:03 AM
for now the fifth and final spot to advance was being held down by Bartuzzi, but look behind him. Everyone knew that was where they had to be to make it.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 11:10 AM
Lyons was up front followed by Leaver unless someone crashed they would get first and second.. McClure here was holding in the third spot

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 11:16 AM
Things change fast. Baker has now moved into third putting McClure in fourth and Ragan in fifth.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 11:30 AM
And look, from out of no where a rider who was in the very back finally realizes this is it. I better get going. Suzuki's newest rider Jeremy Lawson. He said he finally got comfortable and started riding hard. He moved into the fifth and final spot on the last lap.
So Lyons, Leaver, Baker, McClure and Lawson would make it to the big Event.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 12:35 PM
Now that everyone was qualified they ran two heat races for starting positions for the Main. Look at the talent in Heat 1!
Ellis,Farr,Gust,Jones,Nelson,Patton,Granlund,Frede ricks,Baker,31 Leaver

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 12:42 PM
Ellis with another great start... out in front.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 12:44 PM
in the second spot with Farr not Far behind! Was Jones.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 12:46 PM
Farr was being chased by Nelson in fourth and Gust was back in fifth.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 12:56 PM
Gust got around Nelson for fourth and there where he finished.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 01:02 PM
Farr tried to get around Jones but couldn't get the job done. He Finished third and Jones got second.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 01:03 PM
With the checkers in heat 1 53 Kory Ellis... second Jones, third Farr, fourth Gust, and Nelson in fifth.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 01:14 PM
Heat 2 didn't go as smooth. On the line 13 Natalie, 12 Little, 71 Smith, 72 Stewart, 14 Schell, 29 Robinson, 32 Chislock, 743 lyons, 26 McClure, 161 Lawson

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 01:16 PM
The first corner was tight...Natalie was out front..

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 01:17 PM
Then Little goes down hard and they red flagged the race..

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 01:20 PM
Look at some of the faces on the croed... Little got a pretty good cut on his head which required a trip to the hospital for a couple stitches. He is ok and doing good.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 01:23 PM
So they lined them up again and.. Natalie again gets the Holeshot.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 01:24 PM
This time Schell gets a good jump also with Stewart between the two.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 01:36 PM
Schell gets spun around, and with Natalie out front the battle for second and third is Stewart, Lawson and Chislock.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 01:37 PM
Natalie is flying...

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 01:39 PM
Lawson is finally showing why he was picked up by Suzuki..He moves past Stewart for second.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 01:41 PM
About lap 3 Chislock goes down moving everyone behind him up a spot..

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 01:46 PM
Now battling for fourth spot was McClure and Schell

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 01:49 PM
Cody Smith was back in sixth. He was real sore from his bad crash in the qualifier, but still hung in there.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 01:51 PM
At the end it was Natalie winning heat 2. Lawson second, Stewart third, McClure fourth, and Schell fifth.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 01:58 PM
This is it The Main Event. As the racers started to line up all I could think of is how 20 riders were going race on this track at the same time!

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 02:00 PM
Everyone was here except Little, so actually you only had 19 riders. And there off...well not exactly someone jumped so they red flagged and restarted. They said it was Jones who now has to start from the back. I couldn't tell, but it didn't look like Jones. But someone had to be punished. Sorry Jeremiah.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 02:26 PM
Ellis got the holeshot followed by Natalie. As they went through the second turn a lot af changes took place. Ellis stayed out front but Natalie Went down.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 02:28 PM
Jeremy Schell, Also riding for ALBA came out of nowhere and grabbed the second spot.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 02:36 PM
As Ellis continued to lead everyone around the track, Schell was starting to get a little pressure from Farr.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 02:39 PM
As Farr tried to take the inside on Schell he got a little to much bite and couldn't get it back...

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 02:40 PM
And over he goes...

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 02:41 PM
It stayed upright and he was able to get going again quick..

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 02:43 PM
This gave Schell a little breathing room.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 02:53 PM
Meanwhile after starting from the back Jeremiah was working hard to get up front. Here he is getting ready to go around Nick Granlund #11,

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 02:58 PM
Also working his way back into the race was Natalie. Natalie was able to catch Farr and make the pass.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 03:01 PM
Gust working his way up passes Robinson #29.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 03:03 PM
Lyons and McClure were battling mid pack.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 03:09 PM
The last couple laps got tough. As Ellis starts to work his way through lapped riders you couldn't tell what was going on.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 03:12 PM
Schell didn't get so lucky. By now Gust and Nelson were both on hi back door and he got held up by a lapped rider costing him second place. Gust moved into second and Nelson third.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 03:15 PM
Jones had an awesome come from the back ride finishing in the fifth spot behind Schell.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 03:17 PM
But Kory Ellis was the big winner tonight. From holeshot to finish line.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 03:18 PM
Dustin Nelson took home the third place honors.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 03:19 PM
Doug Gust got second for the night.

WestCoast Editor
01-17-2005, 03:26 PM
And tonights overall winner, with some of the best starts I've ever seen him get, #53 Kory Ellis. Congrats Kory! He is now 3 points ahead of Natalie after two rounds. This is going to be a real good battle. Next week we will be in San Diego Ca. for round three. Stay tuned to see what happens. Pro quads arent a halftime show.
They run through the entire night switching back and forth with the trucks. Get there early if you want to watch the heats because if you get there at the advertised start time all youll see is the main.

Great race! looks fun to me. I would like to have seen an overhead shot of the whole track. With the holeshot being so critical on these tracks, looks to me like the track designers need to come up with some type of portable gate, maybe something simular to Speedway racing where pole mounted rubberbands spring up, or a backwards-falling moto-cross style that is module. Being the victim of a mis-call is no fun, everybody deserves an equal start.
