I just built a drz/250R hybrid and finally got to fire it up today and ride it. My brother rides a kfx400 and the after market parts for the two motors are the same parts.

They both have both in and ex hotcams, wiseco highcompression piston. They both have the thin base gasket and both an fcr 39 carb. His bike has a dyna ignition where mine has a stock drz400s cdi.

For exhaust he has a yoshimura on his kfx and on my bike i have a stockz400 head pipe modified to fit with a gytr slip on.

The drz motor feels a lot stronger then the kfx400 motor. We have been trying to figure out why the drz feels stronger when the internals are basically the same.

The only difference i can think of is that the gear ratios might be different and that could make a difference. Just curious what you guys thought.

I have been real pleased with it so far. I just wanted to use the drz motor to use something different.

Now i just can't wait to go out and race it and see how it is going to do compared to everything else.

For right now i just took a stock 87 frame and gusseted it and changed the motor mounts for the motor. I also built the swinger to.

did you have to modify the upper frame rails? you usin a cr500 link?

yeah i modified the upper frame rails. i'm using a no-link setup. Had to raise the top shock link for a no link shock.

very nice build.i would think the gearing could have some to do with the felt power diff.z/kxf's are heavy.i think your weight diff between the to quads is the biggest factor.if we could cost effectively cut,15-25 lbs off a mx z/kfx,think of how much performance could be gained.:eek2:
