In the June issue of Dirtwheels they have the original shootout article from 1986 which reviewed the 86' R and then the shootout between the LT250 and 250R
thats my bro's lt250R.
a few months ago they did the original LT250R test re-print, he was pretty excited about that, then i bought the new issue and saw the original TRX250R test and 1st shootout, it was pretty cool, i remember reading that shootout in the original issue way back when........
toyota, the lt250 does real good in general (as fast as a piped shee) but its not fair to compare against my R (310 motor and after market , suspension, a-arms and swinger), he is all stock except pipe/carb
my brother is thinking about selling it, if he does, i will most likely buy it.
NEPA250R
05-10-2005, 07:29 PM
Does the LT feel a lot lighter than the R? I read in Dirtwheels that the LT only weighed 298 lbs., compared to 328 lbs. for the R.
i think my bro is becoming a member of this site....so he can confirm that his lt feels a fair amount more heavy than my R, again, im not sure what kinda weight reduction all the after market parts make if any
enough so that i am thinking about buying a scale to put the jackstand and the quads to measure

KajunATVer

I ordered it from an add in Dirt Wheels back in 1999. It's made by hi-flite. Sorry but I don't remember exactly where I ordered it from. I'm sure you could find one on the net though.

Its getting tough to find a decent cover, unless you want a griper.
I'll do a search for hi-flight.

I'm from the center of america. I'm from the flat lands of Kansas.
It was a pretty sweet deal, I just had a nearly mint yfz sitting around and the guy saw a pic of it. He pmed for a trade. I jumped on it. It would have never happened without a good trading piece. He wanted a nice, fast quad.

There are a lot of tight R's here. You have a nice 88 Freak. I'm a four stroke guy if you have seen the link I provided. I can build em. But I'm trying to learn two strokes now. I'll probably need some help and advice from you two stroke freaks around here :blah:

Aint no thing Clone, just ask. There is alot of good info here, and alot of good people that know their R's that are willing to help. Alot of good info is already here just do a search.
If you can build a thumper, a 2-stroke will be easy for you.

I had a signed title from someone else 3 months before I bought it. It was signed over from a woman that put the selling price at $100.00. He had some story about how he sold it to her, but she couldn't pay him so she sold it back, and listed it at $100, so he wouldn't have to pay a lot in taxes. Well, I hope that's a valid story and he didn't just find it at some widows house and offered her $100 for it. He rigged it up with about a gallon of armor-all and did some ghetto clean ups like paiting the stock exhaust, flywheel cover, and front sproket guard. The bike needed new pegs, a complete rebuild of the rear suspension linkage and swing arm pivot, some minor de-rusting of the frame on the bottom, new chain and sprockets, new handlebars, grips, and some other minor stuff. That stuff plus not having the original piston like he said it did, are the only complaints. It's a great quad. Brakes are all in perfect condition and original, so was the chain and rear sprockets, so you could tell it wasn't riding THAT much for being 17 years old.

HEY YFZ ROB, POWERSLIDER and 2STROKE FREAK!
Which one of you bought the nice 88 Scott had listed in around February of this year? The one on the cylcetrader that said it was stored for 6 years - $4800? I was going to go look at it but wasn't able to make it before he sold it. He had another original for $4K but it seemed a little rough for that price. I managed to get down to look at it and his little treasures - one of you know what I mean. He told me he just picked up an 89 that he is redoing. After talking to him for several hours, I'd have to say this guy is hands down THE 250R guy.
Another question - did you guys get original seats with the 88's or factory replacements new ones?
Nice R's boys.

yeah i ride thier alot. Sundays is pretty good if you want some racing. The police don't bother you Iv'e never seen them out their. Just stay out of the building that isnt finished. When your coming up 94 get off at range road, take a left, at the next light by burger king take a left and take that road all the way back. You can park where ever. The hills in the back, you can go up and behind and their are some more trails. Just stay out of the building, every one I heard of getting in trouble was in thier, ever since that kid died in their it's been a big deal.

I wish this was an nsr500 motor. LOL, I heard those go for about 20 grand. Anyway this is a motor from a 93 Honda gp road race bike. This motor is suppose to make 75hp right from honda (HRC)!! These motors are pretty hard to come by since they werent produced in the U.S. I will post updates as the project goes on. With the little testing ive done I feel this motor has great potential. The pair of 38mm carbs that come on these motors is a pretty good indication of that, these motors seem to be built for all out racin right from honda and this engine is light too. http://www.planetsand.com/memberphotos/355082-GenosBikelift.JPG Here is a dyno sheet of the detuned NSRroadbike version that has been reworked back to its potential. http://www.apexleisure.co.uk/dyno1.htm

I wonder how much power you could get out of those with a couple bolt on esr or lrd 310 top ends.:eek2:

10-05-2005, 06:45 AM
It would take an a lot of machining to get 250r sized cylinders to fit this motor. These cylinders are basically the same as cr125 cylinders with better porting. So the base is pretty small but since the cylinders are staggered kinda overlapping eachother but at a 90* angle it would be possible with alot of machine work unlike say a banshee motor where you are limited since the cylinders are right next to eachother. A big bore kit is available which makes this a 300 but something bigger would be great. I have already looked into other cylinders that might work but at this point im going to see how much power it can make as a 250. Im going to have this motor dynoed myself over the winter and if it really makes 75hp now im thinking 100hp wouldnt be out of the question!!!
zedicus00
10-05-2005, 10:37 AM
actually there is a NSR 500 motor, it was a 4 cylender engine, and ONLY sold to road racers. i dont think theres any of them in the wild.
yur right about that one having topends closer to the cr125. exceps i was thinking the botom cylender on that engine is a case induction setup and the top cylender is a standard cylender induction.
you may look into big bore kits for cr125 engines. or maybe come up with a stroke kit for that engine. that street bike was very popular across the pond for a few years so im sure theres some mods out there for it.
anyways thas a friggin sweet setup. you should machine it to take a 250R jug then mount 2 saberracing kits on it...
think the botom end could handle 200 horse??
genoapb
10-06-2005, 12:51 AM
Both cylinders are case reed inducted and for now im gonna keep it as a 250. I dont know if this motor could take 200hp, lol. I do know that this motor could probably take alot more horse than an R motor since those were only designed for about 30hp and these are designed for 75hp.

Sorry guys, I am a 1/2 trader. For dune purposes only I have a new addition to the family. It is called a HonShee. It is a Lonestar Outlaw chassis (250R Geometry) with a Trinity 421 powervalve motor. I just got back from Dumont, Ca., Sand Hollow, Ut., and Armagosa sand dunes, Nv.
This bike is way fast! I really was suprised how fast. It scorched paddles with 15T X 39T gearing! I have a Sparks 350 Powervalve that can not compare, but still love! Here are a few pics!

The Fullbore fenders cover up more of the tank but still have to be trimmed quite a bit to fit around the tank right. I also made my own front mounting brackets that are about an inch longer to raise the front mounting position of the fenders to hide more of the tank. When you have to run 110 race fuel, is nice to have the extra capacity for long rides. You can find the tank on the IMS and Rocky Mountain web sites.

Ya i hear ya on the gas part. I cant take long rides with the rest of the family, i run outta gas. And it will definately cut my ride short when im running race gas with my stock tank. Have you seen any 3.6 gallon tanks? I wonder if they might sit down lower or maybe not go up as high?
jon370r
12-03-2005, 12:43 PM
The old style 3.6 sit even higher. If you see pics. of just the tanks uninstaled you will see how it holds more with less height.

Jon, i have a feeling you guys would get a kick out of riding with me and my buddy doc and the rest of the crew. we ride all day and go up crazy hills like you guys.
the IMS tank is nice, but like jon said requires trimming to fit right. the clark tank fits so well its almost like OEM. they may be high up but ergonomicly it fits the bike perfect.
Eddiesanders250
12-03-2005, 07:07 PM
even if I have maier plastics wich are not one piece, the tank is separate I will still have to trim the plastics? Im wondering why they dont make like a 2.5 or 3 gal tank. It goes stock then jumps to the 3.6gal then to the 4 gal.
jon370r
12-04-2005, 12:20 PM
2.6 gal. is a stock size tank. The 4.0 should fit maier plastics fine, maier are more like the stock fenders around the tank.

heres my newest addition to the family. lol it will be pretty much fully restored this spring along with a few mods on stuff.
it currently has boyesen reeds and pro circuit header and 304 silencer. thats about it so far engine wise and it will stay that way. i have a couple spare cylinders for it, i have stock blue shocks off another 87, will be getting razrs on .190s this spring along with white fenders, i have the seat cover already, and a some new ASV levers for it. It will get tore down this spring and all the black will get cleaned up and the original gold stuff will get fixed. I just have to find stock style graphics for it and it will be about done then. :D It will have some esr stuff on it also once i get all of the stock stuff together. I wanna mod it to my liking but want to get all of the stock stuff i can first so i can restore it back one day to add to my collection.
It along with my current 400ex will be the first 2 in it once i get my own garage and place. :D
i already added the dg stuff to it along with the stock tool box, a different grab bar that is stock style, and my stock 400 rims and spare tires just to make it look decent for the pics. steve
