I had 1 for 9 yrs, died in 97-98, I still have a scar from where it bit me(was my fault), they have teeth like a shark and the jaw is somewhat the same to, they have a real important diet and 90% that become pets die from malnurishment, they'll break their bones(tails break very easily and will rot off) so try not to get it whippin the tale

I got mine and it was 4 inches, was 4 ft pretty quick(they will stunt if ya dont give them a big tank, I built a 4x6 cage for mine)

I named it Bill and later (5 or so yrs) found out it was female:p

They "head bang" (sign of claiming turf)

Most live miserable lives as pets but if your a good pet owner ...it'll be healthy and live long, but remember...they will bite, some are always pissed and some are friendly(mine liked me but hated anybody else) they have saminilla(sp) so ALWAY wash up after holding it or cage matter

You can learn a chitload online so surf up if you havent

R.I.P Bill(ette) :D

I sure as hell hope you know what your doing. Herps are a big responsibility, and can either suffer in horrible conditions and likely die a painful death, or live healthy happy long lives. It's in your hands. Here is some good sites, I really recommend you read up on these and take good care of him/her.

You are just as likely to catch a disease from a dog or a cat. Washing your hands before and after handling should be a common practice anyways, though, so you shouldn't have to worry.

Here are some links with info about diseases you can catch from the animals:
