Can I use a 400ex swingarm on my 450r? What will I have to do to make it work?

I already have a new plus 1.25" swing arm for a 400ex. I would like to use it instead of buying a new one.

All you need to change is the sleave that goes through the needle bearings everything else is the same i've been useing 400ex swinger since mine was new with no troubles.:)

i used a 400ex swingarm on my 450 and i had trouble with chain allignment. all i had to do to fix it was turn the front sprocket around and the chain lined up nice. it did not come off anymore after i did this. you can use the sleeves from your stock swingarm pivot. also i had to cut and fabricate my stock chain slide, but the original 400ex slide may work fine for you.

Is the lenght the same on both? This is good to know incase I ever step up to the 450.

Sorry I mean the actual lenght of the swingarm. With the 400 arm on the 450 will it be the same wheelbase or +-.

I have been running a Leager 400EX Swingarm on my 450R since Feb last year. It works great!.

The 450R aftermarket and the 400EX aftermarket both say there +1 1/4 and they are the same so UI would think that the stock ones would be also...

Both are the same length-the 450r is about 1/4" narrower at the carrier end. If you take it and mill the left side to match then the 450 carrier works and lines up perfectly!

But is it alright to use the 400 carrier? Will everything line up and run straight (chain)?

Some people just shim the rear sprocket over and it works.

Cool thanks!

Or as said earlier you can just put the front sprocket on the other way and then it lines up fine.

explain again where you mill on the swingarm...

You mill the Swing Arm if you want to use the 450R Carrier in the 400EX Arm.

thanks for all your help. Will I be able to use the 450r rear breaks, or do I need to use the ex breaks if I use the ex carrier and anti fade. thanks

so what your saying is you flip the counter sprocket on the 450 use a 400ex swingarm and bearing carrier. and the rest axle antifade etc. is 450r?? And it works fine???

Yep, Sounds like you have it, Just so everyone is clear..

If you use the 400EX Swingarm, Carrier, Axel, Etc... Just put the front sprocket on backwards.

If you use the 400EX Swingarm with the 450R carrier-axel then you mill the left side of the Swingarm where the carrier goes so it is the same width as the 450R.

Any way that you do it you will have to use the sleaves/spacers in the front of the Swingarm from the 450R.

again I will use 400ex bearing carrier w/400ex swingarm.Flip counter sprocket. But i still use 450r axle, sprocket hub and anti fade???

I never heard of anyone mixing the Carrier and Axel from the Two diffrent quads. I would sugust that you figure out what axel you want to use and use the carrier to match.

I like the 250R axels becuse the hubs seem to be stonger and the 250R and 400EX Carriers are idendtical so I used the 400EX carrier. Then just had to change the Spacers at the front and turn the front sprocket around.

If you want to use the 450R axel I would use the 450R carrier and mill down the left side of the swing arm where the carrier goes. Don't get to hung up on this milling thing, its not rocket science, just take a grinder to is and get is so the carrier fits in and you can get the snap ring on the other side. Once you get it in and adjust the chain, the clamp will hold the carrier in place.

I used a 400ex carrier and swingarm, flipped the counter sproket and I used the 400ex axle and sprocket hub. Locknuts are the same. No grinding on anything just bolted right on.:)

You will have to use a 400ex carrier but the axle and and the
anti-fade both work on it.
I have been using an RPM dominator in mine for the last 6 months no problems to date.:)

Hey Varmit 57. After doing some measuring. Of what I came up with is mill off 1/16 on each side of the ex swingarm.and then you can run the 450r bearing housing /axle. Also you WILL not have to flip the counter sprocket around. IS THIS RIGHT?Thx, For your info..

if you want to use your 400ex rpm dominator axle you will have to call rpm and order the 450r sprocket hub, then press the 400ex hub off of the axle and install the 450r hub. this is what i had to do to make the axle work properly.

Sound about right but I would take as much as I could off the left side so the chain lines up better.

Why did you change the hub, the 400ex hub and sprocket seem to work fine?
