Just wondering what were some recommendations/suggestions for my 11yr old's next quad....

Right now he has a 2001 Eton Thunder 90 and can ride that w/o any hesitation on all terrain. He's a good rider.
Size-wise he is on the small size, very skinny and short.....

Quads I've been considering are:

Kawasaki Mojave
Yammaha Blaster

I'd like to stick with Honda, but I think the 250ex might be too big.

Give me your thoughts.....

Thx :)

If you are considering a mojave or a blaster, I don't think a 250ex would be a problem. Both thos machines have more power than the 250, both are clutch and both have a kick start. The 250 is a semi auto and electric start which will make it very user friendly for your son. Also it has a shaft drive vs. chain on the other 2 so there is less matinece involved for you or your son to worry about. Also the 250ex has better suspenstion than the blaster and mojave. As for the 250 being a little too big, at first it might be, but he is only 11 he can grow into it, and if he is as good a rider as you have said he shouldn't have a problem with it. If you do want him on a smaller machine and if he can use a clutch and kick start then go with the blaster. Also I'm not totaly shure but I think the 300ex is slightly smaller in size than the 250ex, but dont hold me to it.

i got my 250ex when i was 11 and yes it was a bit big but i did grow into it, but if u make him take it easy for a bit to make sure he isnt going to hurt himself on it, plus him being a good rider i think a 250ex would be a good choice. i can tell you first hand that it is VERY easy to maintain and does well on all terrain.

I bought my Wife a TRX250 so She can go riding with us and I let my 9 year old Son ride it, I thought the 250EX was to much too, but after I showd him it had a lot more power then his CRF50, he really likes riding the TRX250EX. we has fun at Gordons Well.

The TRX250 would be a great Quad (Automatic Clutch)

I thought it was a little too much at first but my grandson rides a warrior.... He is 12, is normal size for his age and does great...

I agree that your son will grow into the 250... I bet you'll be suprised on how well he can handle it.

A z250 or a 250ex would be perfect. They are both semi auto's so you dont have a clutch. If your son is a good rider and he wants to learn how to use a clutch look at the kawasaki mojave. If he is small then maybe you should go with either 250. Consider a yamaha breeze or a suzuki quadrunner 160.

I had a blaster once. I recommend my competition to get one.:D

The 300ex is bulletproof and easy to handle. This is where my 11 year old went after the LT80. He loves it.

I would say the 250ex. Even if it is to big now, your son will grow into it. It doesnt have a clutch so its very easy to laern how to ride.

I see you have a 300ex. He don't fit on it very well?

I used to have a 300ex. When I got a good deal on my 400, I sold it.

Maybe I'll start taking him shopping when he finally decides to sell his 90 and we'll size him up.

Guess that's all I can do.....

Thanks for the suggestions

:D

Keep in mind, at 11yrs old, your son is probably due for a growth spurt in the very near future. I would estimate less than a year before he is big enough to man-handle the 250EX.

If you or your son are the type of people to upgrade, I would point you towards the 300EX. Completely stock, the 250ex will go just about anywhere the 300EX will go, but if you want to get into the world of modifications, the 300EX has WAY more potential. With the 250ex shaft drive and auto-clutch, you're pretty much stuck with it as-is, no room for improvement.
