What is the best drop in cam for a 400 without the expense of getting new hardened rockers.:devil

as far as the best i dont know. But i put a midrange drop in by WebCam in mine, and i like it real well, good power increase all around really. It is like 175 plus 160 refundable core charge i think.

I know alot of people use the xr400 cam. What are it's advantages and how does the bike feel afterwards. Is it that big a difference. What about Honda's HRC cam. Its supposed to be a factory racing cam for the XR400 what could I expect from it?

Honda Guy I got my harden rockers from WB and I think that TC does have a cam but I dont know how much it is.

mosley I hear that the HRC cam is a good drop in but it cost more than the 451 Web cam. Im not sure how much of a difference there is between the two but im sure they both are better than the stock cam.

The xr cam is a good all around cam. It is a fairly mild modification, but it will wake up a 400ex quite a bit. The HRC cam is more radical, and from what I have heard, it is more of a mid to top cam, and your bottom end won't be as strong. I don't know how much truth there is to that.

Yes TC has Two Cams. He has a XC and a MX Cam. The XC adds Bottom End and the MX is for all around Power. I think it hits best in the Mid. The XC is $179 and the MX is $209. They do not need Heavy Duty Valves or Hardened Rockers.

Does TC use JE pistons? how much would it cost to get TC to put in a 416 pistion(bore) and a MX cam? Is there anything eles he usually does, I dont want to do the head work yet. Will the TC mx cam have alot more power then a XR cam?

i doubt that tom will do just a bore and cam motor... i think when they do engines they like to do the full deal with porting and everything... yes i think the tc cam makes a differnce over the xr400 cam

I think TC uses Wiseco Pistons. You could get a JE 416 Piston and put it with a TC MX Cam. I would Call Tom and ask to make sure. I`m sure his Piston Kit would be Great. The TC Piston Kits are $120 I think and the MX Cam is $205-$210. You are looking at $330 or a little more. Then I would get some Viton Valve Seals. I think those are around $10. The it`s just having the Piston and Cam put in unless you are going to do it yourself.

I am getting a Hot Cams as soon as they are in stock. They are brand new cams, not regrinds of used cams. There is no core refund either. They are made out of billet aluminum so they are the same hardness as the rockers so there is no need the harden the rockers or get new valve springs. They have a Stage 1 and 2 available for the 400ex. I am gonna get the stage 2. Best part is they are only $132.99 for a brand new cam through Dennis Kirk. They are expecting delivery on them in early may. Hot Cams is a partner of Pivot Works so they are definately quality parts. They have also been extensively tested. I will post their phone nuber in a sec....;)
