Can anybody tell me the reason for having a spacer plate on my 86 without having a long rod????

A stroker crank would be one reason.

A novice, retarded engine builder could be another reason.

I got it off some old man and the first time i snapped a ring in it i took the head off and the spacer was there i didnt know if it was a gasket or something and i took it to a shop and he told me it was a spacer but he didnt know what for?

I rebuilt my motor and while I was reading through my manual just one more time I found out that it was not a spacer plate it was a special gasket used because some 86's leaked coolent into the cylinder.
