My 98 chevy silverado...nothing that great right now...but soon as money permits im gettin either a skyjacker 6 inch suspension lift and a 3inch body lift....or a full throttle 9.5 inch suspension lift, and a 3 inch body lift, and some big meaty tires...i just put a new motor in it 3 months ago a new 5.7ltr 350 vortec

we are a chevrolet owning family....I own my 98 silverado, my step dad has a 91 chevrolet silverado, we just sold a 89 chevrolet silverado with a snowplow n everything for 2000 bucks, that truck ran fine just needed some regular maintence, my mom has a 2000 tahoe z71 we got that for 8grand...salvage vehicle...spent 3 grand in bodywork and repairs...bb value on it right now is 19 something....and lets not forget the 85 corvette 4spd manuel with overdrive!

i got a deal on my 350...i got it for 1k with a lifetime warrenty

i still have my orig. motor altho. im trying to sell it w/o an intake manifold for 200 bucks...only thing was wrong with it...is it had a knock...some1 told me a lifter was colapsing, i heard like 3 different things from 3 different mechanics....so i just went ahead and got the new motor

i still have the throttlebody, and intake manifolds upper and lower and everything for my stock motor i was going to either sell it separate for about 300 bucks, or sell it with the motor for 500 bucks

would make a good canidate for a 383 stroker motor...the knock it had wont constant...it would knock at idol, then when you reved it up a lil bit it would go away...then when it went back to idol it would stop knocking for a lil while...then start again...the motor ran smoothe to be knocking i dont know what was wrong with it...it wont sloppy running or anything

yea my new motor came with everything i didnt have to swap anything over from my stock motor to my new motor...cept for things like the a/c compressor, and the pulleys for the fanbelt...the rest was all there even the flywheel

the knock you were hearing could have been as simple as bad timing or just needing a tune up. and a salvage vehicle even restored is never worth BB value.

you have a nice truck. when you go to lift it i would stay conservative with the IFS. 6" max. if you want more swap to a straight axel.

thanks...i dont consider my self an importish person because i have euro tail lights...now if i had type R stickers on my truck and decals of shyt i dont even have on my truck...

more plans for the truck include projector headlights for better visibility at night, clear corner markers, clear signal lights, 37.5 tires, 15x10 wheels, 4.56 gears, k&n intake, Flowmasters, hypertech power tuner, chrome pushbar, and that will pretty much wrap my truck up far as outside stuff...but im in no rush to start with the lift or anything b/c of gas prices...that v8 is killer on gas

i know a whole lot about offroad stuff but i have never seen a
37.5 inch tire......who makes the one you are talking about?
...did you mean 38.5's?

derekhonda
01-23-2005, 04:53 PM
i think sometimes a 38" tire is only a true 37.5 but people usually call them 38s

yeah as soon as i entered my post about the tires
that was the first thing that came to mind
b/c there arent really any tires that are exactly the same size
as what size they are called

idk if imma run some goodyear wrangler mt/r or go all out and get some swampers...i think goodyear wrangler mt/r will be good for me b/c the truck will spend more time onraod than what it does off

Not sure how much research your plans are based on, but before you do anything about gearing I would consider higher that 4.56 if you plan on running 37s or 38s. I run 35s with 4.56s and it's great, anything bigger and you are really putting alot more strain on your drivetrain in the long run.

Stop by FSC (http://www.fullsizechevy.com)

I'm a member over there also and I am sure you will find a great deal of info to help you with your plans.

i think 4.56 gears is about all he'll be able to get in those half ton differentials. i myself wouldnt run larger than a 36 on that particular truck. half ton IFS suspensions that havent been beefed up have a tendency to wear out very quickly with big meats on them.

Got nads?

you should do 17" wheels or bigger, might look better than 15's, just an idea.

TCracin440ex

i aint going to run 17 inch rims...i aint into the whole "big rim" deal....i like 15x10 wheels
