I had the wonderful opportunity to cover this exciting race on January 8. There were some of the top pros and some of our top locals competing for the big win! The race was held in the Reliant Stadium in Houston, TX.

heres an inside view of John Natalie's trailer, and wow! is it nice! When I met John and Michelle, they were extremely nice and very easy to get to know. During an autograph session I joked around with John, asking if he had writer's cramp yet, and he said "I dont mind at all b/c I love this stuff."

John wrenching on his quad, he was adjusting the shocks a little bit before practice

FourFiftyFour

I had to take a pic of Johns Fox shocks, they are not available on the market yet, but they seemed to work VERY well on his quad the whole day.

I got to take some quick pics of the track early in the morning, it was looking like it would be a really nice track, with a good rhythm section, some NASTY whoops, and some other technical jumps, and high speed straights!

FourFiftyFour
01-10-2005, 09:32 AM
there even was an option type jump...I was starting to get anxious to see how the track would ride for the racers

FourFiftyFour
01-10-2005, 09:35 AM
a pic during the riders meeting, they kept the riders there for a pretty long time

FourFiftyFour
01-10-2005, 09:39 AM
I got some pretty good shots during the practice sessions, and there definitely was a LOT of action during it, several wrecks and near misses!

#743 Brock Lyons on the gas!

FourFiftyFour
01-10-2005, 09:52 AM
these whoops took a toll on a lot of the riders out there, several of them were getting high centered in them, the track crew eventually made them a little tamer

heres #24 Robert Salinas having trouble on the whoops, Robert is one of our local riders and is a very nice guy! he did get those whoops down after a couple of laps!

FourFiftyFour
01-10-2005, 09:55 AM
heres #743 Brock Lyons showing his stuff through the whoops! Brock is a cool guy, I hung out with him, Brad Phillips, and Skyler Stewart and they are all really nice and very good for our sport

FourFiftyFour

heres two riders battling it out already in practice, the racer still in the air is #41 Bryan Chaler from Louisiana

FourFiftyFour
01-10-2005, 10:05 AM
heres #23 Don Dupuis on a Cannondale/ATK on the gas in a straight! Don is one of our local pro racers and is a very nice guy, he has helped me a lot with my Cannondale. Don went out there and tried his best even though his clutch was not working very well.

FourFiftyFour
01-10-2005, 10:07 AM
#118 Brad Phillips had a pretty nasty wreck during practice :( he still hung around at the track (and rode too!) and had a smile on his face. What a trooper!

EDIT: I found out from Brad that he had broken his collarbone in two places. I hope you have a speedy recovery Brad! See you in Lake Whitney :)

Tim Farr's quad at the pit party. I took note that most quads that had Kenda Klaws on them for practice, switched tires before the race, the Kendas did not seem to work well on the tracks surface

The founders of the STQRA (South Texas Quad Racing Association) Dee and Michele Manshack thanked John Natalie and Michelle Reiser for coming out and riding with our group. They helped several riders with their set ups and inspired a lot of our younger riders. The STQRA also volunteered to help out for the Pro Quad event. Several of the members were flaggers, scorekeepers, and track officials.

From the picture of Kory Ellis's quad, that is a stock 2005 swing-arm. Yamaha must have really made an improvement from last year for Kory to be using a stock swing-arm.

#53 Kory Ellis was just tearing around the track

in the beginning of the race, Keith Little almost went off of his quad, somehow he pulled himself back on the quad and kept going in the race, but was in dead last for lap 1. It was amazing how he kept going even though he was barely on the quad.

FourFiftyFour
