Hey guys I was just wondering what would be the best thing I could do with $350 for my 400ex? I could get the wiseco 11:1 440 big bore kit that comes with everything I need (is it really all I need?) with hot cams stage 1 for $280 off ebay or maybe C&D if there price is comparable. I can get an HMF slip on. Either way I'm getting a 14t renthal front sprocket. Anything else? Any suggestions on what else I'll need for the 440 big bore? I have a person to bore and re-sleeve. I can handle installing the cam. it comes with gaskets and such. Do I need a new connecting rod? If I don't need it would it still be smart to do it anyway because of the extra power? Thanks for reading and I hope you can help.

instead of the 440, i would go with a 406 or 416. this way you don't need to buy a new sleeve. also, you won't have to get your old sleeve removed and the new one installed. a cam, piston, gaskets, boring, etc cost me under $400. the stock connecting rod should be ok. some do replace it for added reliability though.

well if the re-sleeving isnt a problem (I have someone to do it for me for cheap :P) what all will I need with the 440 kit?

to get a 450 bore, you will need a larger sleeve. you do have the option of stroking it and running a smaller bore too. all you should need is the gaskets.

DUDE, get an exhaust first before you worry about the cam and piston. they wont help much when you have the restrictive stock exhaust...??? The cam and piston are going to creat more intake and exuast, and you will need a bigger exhaust (silencer at least) to release the extra air from the extra hp. With 350$ you could get a slip on for about 250, or buy one in the 4 sale section and get a stg1 hotcam, and ground out the header welds in your stock headpipe!

I think that 440 big bores are junk!!! I have a 416 and i can hang, and even pass a few 440s! in open feilds. I think that u can get a cam for less than $280. (look around) I feel that the best bang for your buck is a 416 motor, U use the stock rod/sleave/crank/carb/cam (if u want). I think i have about 500 dollars in my motor and im thinkin im making about 34hp. With a 440 bigbore, u have to worrie about head gaskets, and over sized studs, and the motor doesnt seem to rev very quick.

THats why my 416 will hang in a drag race untill mid range in 3rd gear!

I decided I'm going with an HMF slip-on and buying the 440 kit later. Would getting the HMF full make that much of a difference over the slip-on? Would grinding the welds out of the stock header work just as good? Thanks - Mike

I would get the full pipe if your planning on doing some motor work later.

Should I get the E-Series Pro Meg Full, or the HMF full?

the power difference might not be much differnt but the quality is WAY differnt. The E-series doesn't even come close to the HMF. Go with the HMF full system bro;)

Hmf is a good brand. Get that. I've got one, and I couldn't ask for more.
