These past few days Best In the Desert held their first race of 2005. The race was an awesome experience with 118 (last year there was only 82) entrys with both quads and motorcylces.

As part of the QuadBabes racing team, I packed up my gear and headed to Parker Arizona Friday morning with my mom, and one of our other team members, Christy McGuffin and her dad for the 4 and a half hour drive. There wasn't much exciting on the road, and it was raining pretty much the whole time. When i finally saw this road sign (shown below) I couldn't even begin to tell you how happy I was that the drive was closing in.

This sign made me even more happy then the one before.

This is the agricultural inspection one the way back into California. Unfortunetly it was raining and my mom's windshield wipers got in the way.

A few people headed out to Arizona as well, taking a quick pit stop.

We had finally reached the Grand Canyon State. We were in Parker.

The city of Parker didn't consist of much. A few fast food places, a couple hotels, some local bars, and The Blue Water Casino, which was hosting the event.

We were very surprised to see a hotel sign, but no hotel. The hotel sits down close to the river.

When we got their people were already teching the bikes.

quadchick01

So we rolled out our quad......

As we finished teching our quad, I walked around to see who all was there.

Everyone was getting out their bikes and overlooking everything. With the miles in the race, you cant really afford anything to go wrong.

Allen White talking to Jeremy Schell about how the ITP QuadCross was cancelled on sunday.

Which was really good for our team, because of the fact that we were all planning on driving back home that night to race the next day.

A few of the riders headed up to their hotel.

Did I mention that this hotel has an indoor pool. With a multi-level waterslide. I was the first one to test that out.

Making a few last minute adjustments to the quad.

quadchick01
01-09-2005, 04:25 PM
Here is the water slide. Unfortunetly, my wide-angle lense on my camera broke and I all I had was my zoom lense. Which meant I had to stand way back to take the pictues and the flash wouldn't work.

That's why it's so dark.

These are the signs that are marked out there on the course. The one that you need to watch for the most are the "DANGER" signs. They are very hard to miss.... there bright orange.

The BITD team does a great job marking the track, and its pretty difficult to get lost out there.

Casey explaining the stuck stubs.

Stuck stubs are for when you are out riding if something happens to you or your quad and you arent able to make it back to the pits, you fill out this card with your name, riding number, what mile marker are you closest to, and what is wrong. Then you hand it to the next rider who comes along and they give it to the next check or the next pit they come to.

It just makes it a lot safer.

For those of you who think that this truck is owned by best in the dersert, its not.

The officials, have to use their own vehicles. Which really stinks for the guys who in the Vegas 200 had his car landed on by one of the trucks in the race.

This was the first ameatures to leave the line.

Your starting position is done by a drawing. They take everyone who has pre-entered in a class and draw out names. It's the only fair way. However, everything is done based on times, so your lap timing does not start until you leave the line.

quadchick01
01-11-2005, 09:33 PM
We started off in the fourth position.

quadchick01
01-11-2005, 09:36 PM
and were off!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunetly, luck wasn't on our side this weekend. At about the 10th mile, Chrsity hit a G-out and flipped the quad a few times.

The damage that was done: Left foot peg was completly snapped off, and the Stearing Stem was bent, not to mention a brusied rider who couldn't get back on. By the time she got back to the alt. pit we were already aways down. After the welded the frame back together and straightened the stem Julie left to come meet me at the main pit.

It was up to me and Julie to run the rest of the race.
