Who would win?

If you had to put money on a drag race between the two following cars .. this is a drag from 0 to about 100mph..
a 2001 grand am 3.8 auto
or a 2000 nissan maxima auto.
I am asking this because we recently bought a 2000 maxima Se .. and my cousin owns the grand am .. I am almost positive the maxima will walk all over the grand am even though it is only a 3.0.
What do you guys think?

Its just a regular grand am but its a 3.8 .. I've driven the grand am before and its not too bad.. but I still don't think its as quick as the maxima .. the maxima is a 3.0 dohc 24v motor .. 222hp .. the grand am uses the gm 3800 series 2 engine.

Well,in that case,I'd say the maxima.Even if it was a gt,the maxima would have a good chance.The only drawback 2 each of em is the auto tranny.I think a grand am with a manual tranny would run alot better.Same with the maxima aswell.

You must be thinking of the grand prix gtp .. they have 240hp . from a supercharged 3.8 .. they are pretty quick cars .. the regular Gt motor is a 200hp v6 3.8 if I am correct .. the same motor they use in the buick regal ls , le sabre and the impala.
The only grand am that comes with a 5 speed tranny is the older 3.1 motors similar to that used in the older cavaliers I believe and the 2.4 ecotec.

I know the GT's dont come in a manual.My neice has a new GT,and for being an auto,it pulls pretty hard from a dead stop.I can only imagine what they would do with a manual in it.

The Grand Am unless supercharged are only 175hp. not that amazing. Im pretty sure the maxima would take it

Grand Ams do pretty good in crashes though

not absolutly positive but damn sure the grand am doesnt come in a 3.8 biggest is a 3.4 ram air, fast and tuned might take a maxima but not tuned i doubt it the maxima's have a ton of power, raced one with my 4.3L sonoma and he gave me a run.
to get a 3.8 would have to be a grand prix, or a buik

I know , I have a hard time finding anything on a grand am 3.8 .. I know its not ram air... it doesn't have the scoops on the hood.
was the maxima you raced an older or newer one .. the pre-2000 maximas only had somewhere around 180hp I believe.. then they upped it to 222hp in 2000.
I will try to get a video up of us racing in a few weeks.

grand ams have the 3.4 grand prix's have the 3.8. i know this cause my dad has a grand prix gt and his ***** has a grand am gt ram air. both are 2004's. the grand prix will walk all over the grand am. that 3800 is a powerful motor and has plenty of get up and go. the grand am feels more like it wants to be a race car kind of ricer like. dad always *****es how all it does is shift and wants to rev while the prix just pulls.
i have no experience with a maxima so im not gonna add my 10 cents for the race :scary:

These are the closest on the years. The first number is the 0-60 time, the second number is the 1/4 mile time. Based on this, I would say the Maxima.
