A friend of my dad said he used to race harescrambles with a 400ex and he swears up and down that a stock header with a slip on is just as good as a full exhaust system for XC racing. Is this guy nuts or is this partly true?

I also jsut put a 440kit on and want to suck as much low end punch as I can for the tight woods.

Thanks, Dustin

with a 440 you want a full system, cause you can feel the difference. with a mildly built or stock engine i cant tell the difference between a full and slip on.

with a 416 i could feel the difference.. it just feels restricted with the stock one on there.. i wish i could explain it in mechanical terms haha

In a way yes, you dont NEED to. Compared to the 300ex the 400ex stock header less restrictive. So with mild mods you would be fine. Although I would think once you got to bigger bores such as 426 and up, you would really want a less restrictive header than the stock one.

i figure adn was told that if ur head isnt ported u wont need a larger diameter header because with a stock head is can only push out so much exhaust....but with a ported head it allows more exhaust to come out .....yea see wut im sayin
