i have a 2000 400ex stock engine. i want to put in a hotcam and a 10.1 piston. i mostly ride trails and some open trails and alot of wheelies. should i get the stage 1 or 2 cam? and also how hard is it to put in a cam myself if i bring it to a shop to get timed. im bringing it in soon anyway and i want a cam before that so should i just put it in myself with the manual or have them do it

i have a stage 2 and really like it you do lose some bottom end but you can still wheelie it. i know a stage one adds alot of bottom end. but i motocross race so i wanted more mid to top.

get the manual, read and understand, and do the work your self (besides boring). it takes a bit of time but isn't all that hard. it doesn't hurt to have a buddy next to your side when putting the bike together. the stage 1 will be more user friendly on trails and for riding wheelies. the bike may be all out quicker when dragging with the stage 2. with teh stage 2, a rev box is almost needed to get the full potential out of the cam. the stage 2 will rev higher and provide its power at higher rpms. the stage 1 is a nice all around gain over the stock cam.

stay with the stage 1 if your mostly riding trails. Just think of this, The higher the compression and the longer the duration, the faster the bike will rev.
