View Full Version : KFX 400 Valve Shim help!?

was ridin the heck outta my quad in west virginia a while back and my quad started making this tick tick tick tick noise every time the cams turned over Im pretty sure its just the valves need adjusting but will someone please tell me what tools i need and exactly step by step how to measure and fix the problem. never done this on a KFX before!

That tick,tick,tick is most likely the junk cam chain tensioner system! The local Suzuki dealer has a new style tensioner similar to a 450R which is longer to take up the slack.

are you sure? im not saying your wrong but i did check the tension in the chain and it was still pretty good and if you watch the exhaust cam while cranking the engine over with the valve cover off every time the lobe hits the valve is when it ticks. the quad still runs really good it just ticks rediculously loud

This is a vinson 500 tensionner . 1/4 longer Very helpfull

I HAD THE SAME TROUBLE!!!!!!!!

Go get a mechanical tensioner and tighten it with the fingers and the tic tic tic goes away. Then loosen it till the tic starts again then a half turn in. It will work! I swear!
