400ex not wanting to idel well.

my 2001 400ex is not wanting to idel well at all. it staws if you dont give it alot of gas right away even with the choke on. then when it does idel, it staws when i first give it gas. any ideas how to fix it?

is the gas fresh?
put a new plug in and clean the air filter.
then you need to take the carb. apart and clean it real good. it sounds like the pilot jet has trash in it.

try gettin it warmed up so you can take the choke off and higher the idle screw a lil

thanks for the advice. is there an easy way to change the spark plug? i pulled the wire today and it looks like a tight fit for a wrench. do i have to remove the plastics to change it?

You should have a tool kit that came with it if you bought it brand new; if you bought it used, the tool kit was probably taken off like most people do. The tool kit has a plug wrench, it fits in there perfect. You should have an allen wrench that you use to turn the wrench once it's on. If you don't have one, go to the local dealer and ask for a plug wrench for a 400ex, I'm pretty shure there all the same size though.
