I have a 426 kit with a hotcam stage 1 and my bike is running like crap because of the carb. I know I need to get an aftermarket on because having a stock carb on a rebuild bored out motor its not going to run like it should. Right now I think I have a 160 main and aa 42 pilot and its not running good at all. Its back fireing pretty bad and when its sitting there idling it misses. The plug is bad i know that but there more to it then that because even whaen i put a new plug in it still runs horrible. is there anything i can do to the stock carb to make it run pretty good until i can afford to get a new carb? Is there anyone that lives close to bolivar ohio or canton dover new phila or any other areas that has the same set up as me and let me know what it is you did to get your bike running good. I have been having this problem ever since i got the new 426 kit. All help would be greatly appriated.

The stock carb will run pretty good on a 426. It is no FCR but when tuned right its not bad. Sound like you need to rebulid your carb. First try cleaning it and resenting everything.

i run a stock carb on my 426 with the exact jetting you have in. it runs great. i would take the carb off, including the jets, and clean the crap out of it. also, make sure both intake boots are tight and neither have any rips or holes. look close, they are hard to see. clean the air filter too. by the way, you may need to turn your fuel screw out a bit in this colder weather. i run the needle clip position in the 4th position too.

i just checked and i was right between 2.75 and 3 turns out. i guessed pretty close. :D however, i know my bike would run fine if i was at 2.5 or 3.5 out too. so, if yoru bike is running like crap something else is wrong. i would clean the carb like we mentioned.
