try to go to control panel then system and go to devices or whatever it is with the list of stuff and try to refresh it. you may need to check out microsofts website for a driver on the windows updates.

You have to show it where the drivers are on the cd.

What operating system do you have? If XP it should reconize it. Might sound stupid but did you try to restart your computer since you installed it? Like has been said before...update your xp. Also get sp2 (service pack 2) if you dont have it yet. Also what is the brand and model number of this cdrw drive? You said it came with a ribbon cable? I am guessing that is the IDE...try installing the older one. Look at the prongs on everything...if some are messed up that could be your problem. Is the actual drive getting power?

if system does not see the CDROM drive it could be jumperd wrong. one drive on the cable needs to be set at master and one on slave. does it see any cdrom or just not the new one??? cdrom drives do not need drivers the only thing that CDRW's require are a burning software.
