I just take two hammers and smack both sides of the spindle so that it "shocks" the balljoint causing it to break loose

i have a small ball joint seperator. if your not carful it can put a hole in the boot but it works great.

The hammer trick will work. Leave the castle nut on the ball joint (loosely) so you don't goob up the threads when you miss. I've never tried to use two hammers before, just one. Make the hits hard, sharp knocks.

I had the same problem when removing the a-arms on my 300ex to paint them. I couldn't get the a-arms loose from the spindle, the hammer thing didn't work, but instead, i taped up the the brakes and stuff with some masking tape, it'll work till I get my Burgard +3+1 a-arms then I'll have to take it to a shop I guess to have them tapped out.

i use brass punch and a hammer and pound the bottom joint out where the top of the threads are first then the top, that works very good.
