They started offering the 4.3 option in '88 but the 2.8 was still available. In 1992 the 4.3 became the only engine choice and the 2.8 V6 and 2.5 I4 were dropped.

94-up you could get the 2.2 I4, or the 4.3 v6

(current to '93)
The S Series vehicles have been equipped with three I4 engines and two V6s. The I4 engines are available in 1.9, 2.0, and 2.5 litres. The 1.9 litre was offered during 1982 through 1985. The 2.0 litre was available from 1983 to 1984. The 2.5 litre was available from 1985 to 1993. The 2.8 litre V6 was available from 1982 to 1993. The 4.3 litre was available 1988 onwards. there also was a 2.2 litre diesel available from 1983 to 1985. The 1.9, 2.0, and 2.8 litre engine were equipped with carburation until 1986. The 2.5 litre was only available in Fuel Injection. All engines available from 1986 onwards have Throttle Body fuel injection. In 1991 and '92 the 4.3 came with an MFI-Turbo option on some trucks. Also in 1992 and '93 some 4.3 litre engines were equipped with a Central Multi-Port Fuel Injection System (CMFI).

My s10 came from factory with a 4.3. Now however it has a 350, makes that old girl fly. Were the Syclones/Typhoons ever sent to Canada, I have never seen one in person.
