OK here goes I have a set of ITP rimsand the edge was starting to get pretty beat up so I made some rings that fit snog on the inside but the local welder can't weld them in cause he say it's going to melt the rim. So i was thinking that instead of just trowing out the rings i could put them in with some jb weld. Would that holdup? i know it's not as strong as welding but would it still hold.

THANK

Your local welder isn't much of a welder. Rings are welded on all the time by good alum welders.

no the welder is really good but it's the way I made the rings. He said he could weld it if the rings where smaller but this way he said it will melt the egde of the rim and mest it up. I don't want to spend any more money for more aluminum plates. I'll just buy some beadlocks this summer but since I have the rings I don't really want to waste them. I only payed 40$ for material but still.

So what do you think would jb weld be stong enough to hole till this summer???

The rings are hammer fitted so they are pretty tight as is but I don't really want to lose a ring when I drive:huh

yeah I guess I could just try it and see what happens. It's just that I still want to do a good job and sand it down good so it will still take some time

A lil epoxy couldn't hurt, and its clear too.

You might also want to consider JB weld isnt real cheap for the amount you get. I would think it would take quite a bit to JB the rings on and the tubes dont go real far.

yeah I guess your right. I might try to use epoxy to hold them down and just jb the edge to make it clean and sandable. it would look like it's just one piece. That would be pretty cool I think.

Melting the outside lip doesn't hurt the rims- take them to someone that can tig weld and you'll have a set that will last a long time.

well I don't know what to say he is seposedly really good and he can TIG. He said that if the rings where a little smaller he would have room to fill with the rod and that would be alot easier:confused:

Take it to another welder and see what he says.

If the rings are pretty tight as is and your just worried about them flying out while riding why dont you just get him to put 4 or 5 tack welds around the rim, that should keep it from flying out.

yeah I know but he was going to do it for cheap cause it's a friends, friend. But any way. I'll see what I can do. I think I might jb weld two pieces of aluminum and then beat on it a while to see if it's tough or not. and maybe epoxy to.

He said it would look ugly if it'S not all the way around. I kind of agree with him it would look wierd.

He is also worried that if I hit them where it's not welded it could bend out the ring

The jb weld or epoxy is not going to hold up. You will be wasting you time.
