Hey guys and girls out there if your looking for the fastest best 400 out there. Well I have done some reading and it turns out that the best 400 is definently the Z400. In a flat drag race it beats the 400ex 6.19 to 6.63 in a completle flat pavement drag. Then it beats the Artic Cat DVX 400 6.19 to 6.25 the Z400 wins. But thats not why its the best one out. It is very light very easy to handle and is in a good price range

The LTZ, the DVX, and KFX are the same machine....you don't think that rider differences have anything to do with this? Why do you need the fastest 400 out there? why not buy a 450? Or is it going to be a trail bike? then a 400 would make sence. Don't all of these machines, other than the honda weigh the same +- 2-3 pounds?

Yes your right on all of what you have said. I was just saying to people who want a fast machine thats fun. But you are very right on how its mainly the rider and not the machine.

yea for real, I beat z400's all the time on my 400ex. Even when it was still stock.

oh and if u really wanna get pissed off, read the shootout, they bash the 400ex so bad, i mean i know the 400ex is gettin old and its not quite as fast as the z400, but its sad how much they make fun of it. It pisses me off, they treat it like a blaster
i wouldnt get a 400ex i owned one and your k inda stuck with what you have when you get it, the brakes suck ,no power unless you go with some high dollar bore kit which makes no sense because you could get a yfz or trx for that money and still have an advantage.plus it wont be as reliable with all that motorwork, the handling isnt too bad , i rode a z 400 witha ct exhaust and tcs shock, it was a pretty good ride the torque felt similar to my yfz just not as hard and signed off way earlier but over all it was way more fun and had way more potential than a 400ex, i would buy the z 400 if i had the choice, the 400ex you wont break stuff as easily but the same stuff breaks on both....now the z 400 comes with better shocks and a few minor motor upgrades, dont waste money on a articcrap, its a z 400 with horrible ergonomics, feels like your trying to stradle a 55 gallon drum, the plastic is cheesy too, and i dont know if the artic cat will be getting the new upgrades the suzuki has...
here come the 400ex owners saying its still the baddest quad to have...

yah, im leanin more towards gettin a z400 now tho. After i get my truck next year i wont have a whole lot of money to throw around and i was just gonna maybe get a used 400ex since their so cheap, and i was eventually gonna move up to somethin better. But idk, ive sat on a Z before and they're nice and all, and love the looks of them. It might not be a problem anymore but the frame problems ppl used to have just kinda creep me out
Z400 is a good quad no doubt, but it doesn't dominate the 400EX as much as the magazines and some of the people on the forums would have you believe. The only Z400 that's clearly beat me up Sand Mountain was a highly modified Z440, which also beat all the YFZ's it went up against. If you're buying to modify the engine for maximum performance I think the Z400 would be the better option. If you're intention is to keep it stock or just do some light mods the 400EX is the better built quad IMO.

New upgrades?? they didnt do anything on the z well motor wise one of my friends just got one and the shocks are cool but it dont have any more power or is any faster, i raced him on my kfx and beat him pretty bad but then switch bikes and i beat him on his and he lost on mine so that was in the rider but i think mine is alittle bit faster, i beat a kfx 700 a bunch of times and switched riders and the 400 still won the 700 had duel ct exaust k & n power kit and i still beat him

actually the z, kfx, and dvx are not all alike anymore.
the z and the kfx are but the dvx did not get the same upgrades in 05 as the others did.
So, after saying that, the z is probably faster than the dvx, and i'm sure it handles better as well

So your saying the new cam design that is supposed to be more aggressive, and shaving some of the weight off of the machine did not help it what so ever.

if you ask me, 05 400ex vs 05 z400, the z400 is better, i know i cant say much cause i ride an 80, but the 400ex is just a little outdated now compared to the stuff we have out now, but its good for the racers (like me most likely) who dont have enough money for the 450's, i also think the new 05 ex is over priced

it makes me mad seeing all these people talk crap about the EX. of course it is going to be slower than a z400. the EX has been out for 5 years and the z has been out like 2 or 3. the z has newer technologie(sp). ive rode a z and ya, its a little faster but i still feel better on my 400ex.

When I rode a Z it did feel like it sat higher and I didn't like it. I didn't really notice any power differance at all. I think they are equal except for them dnag shocks:eek2:

in stock form it does sit a little higher but, you have a much better base to build off of. with the right setup (like mine), it sits much lower than most of the others.

exactly i couldnt tell a difference at all, i couldnt even tell it sat higher or anything either
My bros KFX sits a bit taller than my EX, but he also has the Holeshot XC tires on it, which look to be about 1" taller than my Razr's.
